Years ago I owned a closet classic KV1 that had a beautiful metallic black paint job. I have always wanted to find that guitar again or one just like it, but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. I am looking into having a KV2T painted this color though - any ideas on how I could obtain the exact same color Jackson used on those KV1's? my particular one was from 97' i believe.

Metallic black paint on USA Jacksons

There were several varieties - Pearl, which had fine particles, Metallic, which had larger particles, and Metalflake which had a shitload of particles, and Sparkle, which had a shitload more.KV1s, IIRC, came in Sparkle.Your best bet would be to see if your refinisher of choice has samples showing their different varieties, as there wasn't really an "industry standard" for it. One man's Metallic Black is another man's Metalflake. One problem with those finishes is the glitter clogs up a spray gun something fierce, so some shops may not want to go too heavy.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Not sure how well these will show up, but these two Concert Vs were Metallic Black:

I think mine was pearl then. it was a subtle effect, only really noticable up close. from afar it just looked like black.
thanks newc, i never knew any of that stuff
i will be having it painted by a friend of mine who owns an auto body shop. i guess i'll just ask him to do a black with a subtle metallic effect?

Also look at GMP for Sparkle finishes to see what I mean. You'll know them when you see them. Not sure what they call them, but they're all about glitz.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I don't recall Jackson ever offering a black sparkle finish on a USA production guitar.
I suspect more likely it was Black Metallic, rather than Black Pearl. (There's also just gloss black, which has none of the above.) Pearls have more of a "shimmer" over the base coat, if you will. Think like an object that's slightly wet or has a bit of mist on its surface, and reflecting off the sun. That's more of the pearl effect. (Although this can look different, if different colored pearls are used - red w/blue pearl, blue w/green pearl, etc.) Black metallic is like an automotive finish, with tiny little flakes of metal reflecting subtle sparkles in the sunlight.

The KV1's only came in Black pearl (BKP) or natural. Anything else was custom ordered."I have so much gayness at times. My wife walks in my music room, and there I am, in my undies, listening to "Sister Christian" while lighting fireworks..doin' blow." - Bill Z
