    Using a veneer on top is useful for hiding routing/repairs, seams, from showing through the paint after time/shrinkage. Maybe for that purpose only.
    Jackson did this at the factory on many solid paint guitars.

        Awesome! You have inspired me. I have a SD pointy neck that is painted black with an ebony board. It has been sitting around for 15 or 20 years. I think I might have to build a similar V with that neck. The search for a body has started...
