Man that is freaking awesome. The outline sharkfins really make the guitar. Is that the only neck-thru strathead "Jackson" in existence ?

39 months and I'm sure a ton of cash, any mistake is absolutely not forgiveable. The "Made in USA" and "Custom Shop" look ok to me but if I speced out birdseye maple, I would damn well expect birdseye maple. I hope they gave you some money back. You had every right to tell them to keep the guitar, it wasn't built right.

That is flat out badass. Major kudos for spec'ing that one out and getting it put together.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the outline sharkies... but seeing it makes the difference.

As for the logo, I would have been ok with something like this, but I didn't really want the CS logo on there. Made in USA alone would have been acceptable. The CS logo is worthless these days, no need to put it on a real custom...

I was thinking it would be something like this... except without the CS logo.

reposted the second so I can look at them both at the same time and decide... lol

I just got it in a couple of hours ago... OMG... they freaking NAILED the neck. Flat Spot D profile to perfection... perhaps even better than the early ones. Birdseye is much nicer in person. It's freaking HEAVY. And the neck is solid and pushing on it barely makes the pitch change. I guess that's the ebony laminate. It would probably stay in tune through a monsoon, rain and snowstorm. All they need to do is fix the logo, and I'm probably gonna sell a bunch of guitars. It's freaking awesome. Everything I expected and then some. Quality is just amazing...

Oh and it sounds weird. It's got a mahogany body, the maple and ebony laminated neck with ebony fretboard... it doesn't sound traditional mahogany, kinda like maple maybe but more curved eq? Walnut perhaps? I dunno, but it's really tight and downtunes wonderfully. I probably would have been upset if I didn't order it with the EMG 85. It sounds great with it.

And it resonantes like freaking crazy. It's one of the loudest electrices accoustically that I've ever owned. IT just rings out, and not having any other pickups probably adds to that sharp clarity that I really notice about it, moreso than on most 1 hum guitars.

              WORTH THE WAIT.

Will get the call-tag and have them fix the logo and she's perfect. Perfect enough to where all the guitars I bought searching for that feel are now kinda unnecessary! I was NOT expecting it to feel this good!

Congrats! Glad you dig it. Is it a speed neck profile?

                  An amazing guitar, for sure.
So, when the discussion comes up in the future about Dinkys=bolt on and Soloists=neck thru; do we now answer 'Dinkys are always bolt on and Soloists are always neck thru...EXCEPT for the neck thru Dinky Xenophobe had made?

Yeah, it's probably the nicest CS from Jackson I've ever seen. No, it's really close to the old flat-D spot neck they used to do on CS guitars every once in a while back in the 90's... basically what I asked for.

edit: I will replace the trem springs, they're too stiff and it's set up with 10's, so that needs to be done, but yeah, build quality is actually a little better than I was expecting or used to.

Haha, yeah, I broke that rule of thumb too didn't I?

I usually don't like Floyds or outlined inlays but everything on that guitar works really well. Very cool and congrats!

Side note...how the F do they keep getting specs wrong on so many guitars these days??? Does the work order have a giant DO THE OPPOSITE OF WHATS WRITTEN stamp on it?

Thanks! Yeah, feel the same way about the outlines... it was originally supposed to have a blank board.

I dunno.... they did fine in woodworking, just whomever painted didn't read it. At least the logo is something they can easily correct.

How are they going to move the logo? Repaint the headstock?

Yeah, they just resurface the face and redo it. And since it's an oiled neck, it's not even difficult for them.

If you look at my mock up a few posts up, I can't even see why they didn't think of that... it just looks so much better, luckily it's spec'd on the Work Order like that... and that's really the only thing they didn't do right.

Crazy they get that shit wrong but that being said

Holy Moly that is one hot guitar. I love the hollow sharkies. Everything about that guitar is delicious. We all have different tastes this one is so yummy though and I think almost everyone can look at that and drool. Really nice specs!!! I do like your logo choice better the strat head in general I think is hard for the Jackson logo, both look good though but yours looks better spaced less cluttered.

Thanks! Yeah, I originally spec'd it out like my mockup and it's on the WO so no problem getting it fixed.

So, I've played a few hours on it and I gotta say, it's everything I expected to get... harmonics hit just at the right spot, plays just like a Dinky. Sustain and how it rings out just like the neck-thru that it is. Pretty much best of both worlds. Only thing is it's at least a pound heavier than mine, but I don't mind, the weight kinda gives it a nice heft. Haven't been able to crank it, but so far, it sounds great too. A little thinner than I expected, probably due to all the extra ebony in the 5 piece neck. I wasn't expecting those ebony stripes to be so thick, but meh, it's fine the way it is.

It's also the most firm and unmoving neck i've ever played. I hope that it doesn't mean problems down the road... and it came set up with 10's which makes me think the extra time it took to deliver was probably sitting around to wait how the neck would settle. In any case if it settles badly, I'll have it Plek'd. Even a slight warp twist or bow is no big deal for the Plek machine to correct, so I'll be fine with it any way it goes. And I'm the original owner so I'll make note of that in my next convo in case it ever comes up in the future, I should be covered.

The neck wood is actually really nice birdseye that you can't see well in the pictures, so after they fix the logo, I'm 100% satisfied!

Anyway, thought I would just post the update. Hopefully I'll get the call tag soon and won't have to wait much longer for it to come back!
