  • What is the string nut made out of on a sl1t?

    Was looking at this part.
could be plastic? If it is can I buy a bone or metal to replace?

My sl2h has black pickup rings, I wonder if I can buy chrome ones to match the rest of the hardware on my guitar.

both guitars are made in USA

Most likely graphite or a similar graph-tech-like material. Bone or metal would also work, it's all personal preference. I prefer the graphite stuff, as it is similar enough in tone/sustain to bone, but is somewhat self-lubricating to better aid tuning stability.

And, yes, there are plenty of chrome (or any other finish) PU rings out there, that you can swap in to replace.

The nut is made of synthetic bone.

No... you cannot buy chrome pickup rings. The black ones were meant to be on there forever.

        I'll second synthetic bone.
I vaguely remember reading that spec for my SL2HT.

I've found no reason to replace mine, though I did have the string slots filed lower.

If I replaced it it'd be with real bone. I've had great tuning stability with professionally cut bone nuts.

              Yes and no.
There are cheap injection molded plastic nuts and then there are resin composite nuts.
Synthetic bone is in the resin composite family. A lot denser than straight up plastic.
But yes, there are plastics in the resin composite.
