Thoughts about a 1984 San Dimas RR1

Hi. Let me know your thoughts about a 1984 San Dimas RR1.

I´ve read about this one on the Internet, it´s the "student" model (lower end????) : hand painted jackson logo, pearl dots in lays, no head stock binding and rose wood fret board. The high end model has ebony freatboard, MOP sharkfin inlays... It´s Serial number is RR0681, Kahler 2300 Pro model trem (I guess so) SD hambuckers. I´m not intended to buy th RR1, despite i may never see a guitar like this never again, the seller is asking about 950 bucks with original case, a good price for it?, i just wanted to share it with all of you to learn more about Jacksons!

I think the "student models" were a great value, considering they were still the more expensive neck thru construction.

No, the seller is asking 950 USD = 15,000 mexican pesos.

Pesos use the $ sign, can be confusing. That price is good especially for a graphic design RR.
This is not an RR1, those came later.

It's a Student Rhoads, lilke I said in my previous post.

The 'RR1' designation wasn't used until 1996ish. In '84 it'd be a Student (dot inlays, rosewood board) or Custom (sharkfins, ebony board).

There were no model number designations back then, everything was custom shop. So it's just a Rhoads Student with a graphic finish. And I wouldn't consider student guitars to be "lower end" by any means. Same quality and construction, just some less bling - the difference is mostly cosmetic appearance.

+1...those had neck thru construction and high end hardware, they crush any "entry level" guitar made today.

Love my Student....love the dots and the simple "hot rod" look. Don't get me wrong, sharkies / ebony / binding are killer, but Students just look cool .

the 'only' reservation I have to that guitar is that it's at a time point where Jackson went away from the original specs, and made the bridge pickup an SH1 as opposed to an SH6...the neck is still and SH2...I ordered mine from an '83 spec sheet, and figured out after a bit that the bridge pup wasn't an SH6...my retailer handed me one and took the one in the RR as payment...I guess it really comes down to what sound you want...I had an SH6 I installed in my Les Paul, and after taking the time to pull the pup in the RR figured out why the RR didn't sound 'right'...

as far as the bling, I never have understood why a student model was offered...I might get the preference for a rosewood fingerboard, but deletion of the sharkies???? the differential in cost was what?, $200...I chose the custom and don't in any way regret it...

but hey, don't mistake me, go for that sucker...3 piece neck through, original specs in all aspects except the pups (e.g. a nice chunky neck), and as noted a piece of history...
