NGD Soloist custom custom has options not found on the custom shop menu

Well it's here - after trying to buy it about a year now, - it was listed and ended unsold 3 times on ebay...we finally agreed on a price.

Other than looks, I was blown away when I played it -

I don't know if it's the thinner than normal Soloist neck, the EVH spec frets, perfect trem float..maple board...!
It doesn't even have the kind of pickups I would expect to sound 'great' (and I will change them..later)

It's not like a regular soloist - feels like a dinky size body maybe, and that maple board...it feels like it plays itself!

I can play way better on this guitar than any other I one I've ever had (that's a lot). This is THE ONE!
I first unboxed it - I played thru my practice amp, then my Marshall JMP-1/9200 into 2x 4 speaker cabs. I played for about 3 hours!
Thank you god! I will protect this my life!

FYI, the Soloist and Dinky bodies are the same. The only difference is neck-through vs bolt-on.

Thanks guys, I think this satisfies the 'real' expectation when you work your azz off to pay for an expensive Jackson custom shop guitar.

I HAVE other custom shops, but in playability they don't even come close...why?

And, this guitar is not "worn in" - it's never even been played other than a quick strum after delivery!

The only real obvious difference is the frets..but these are thinner frets - shouldn't that make it harder to play than jumbos?

I think so, from past experience.

Fretting notes, bending, and especially tapping is effortless on this one ..What would make that easier?

I want to know so any other guitars I might buy will ALSO play this well.


So, there were only 5 made - in different colors - this has a PAF Pro humbucker and an HS-3 in a color that cannot be duplicated (I was told)

I will try a Super Distortion and a Super3 in the bridge.

The neck pickup HS-3 "a noise-free pickup" sounds real good but squeals as soon as I stop playing..

I will talk to the guy who specd this guitar out about that... he's the manager of guitars in a big music store - a big Jackson dealer

Not really. Jumbos give it more of a scalloped feel where you don't have to apply as much pressure to fret the string. If someone doesn't have a lighter touch with their fretting hand, the smaller/thinner frets will be better so they don't push on the strings too hard and knock it out of tune. It's all preference, though.

Maybe it's just everything being set perfectly - neck angle, neck adjustment, string height, but and bridge setup. Maybe even the initial pick attack or less string pull from what I think is a low-output pickup, may help playability in this case..

Here's what I've learned about Jackson high end guitars: most are really good players, lookers, and tone machines. A few are real dogs, and suck in tone but might be good in playability. A few are exquisite like you describe yours to be. Just the luck of the draw really.
