  • Asking for help with history and value of this Iron Maiden Dinky

Mike Learn Paint job..2013 USA DK1, Black paint on the back.

Does anyone know who originally bought this (someone on the forum?) and if it's mahogany or Alder?

    Are there others like this?

I have a chance to buy this one ---

But if I need to sell it at a later time, what do you think is a fair price I can get for it, (I mean, not trying to sell it for a crazy amount)?

Yeah, trying to determine the value of this one, to decide whether or not to buy..

    thanks..

Live After Death album art is an interesting choice considering it's not really a "classic" Maiden album.

Have you or the seller tried looking inside the pickup cavities, trem cavity, or neck pocket for any bare wood spots to identify the body wood?

Don't get me wrong, I love Maiden and I'm hankering for a Dinky, and it's an awesome guitar, but really, only the artwork, reverse headstock, and reverse inlays differentiate it from a standard DK1. I'd price it accordingly. Maybe USD$1500 with case, if you're an Iron Maiden fan? If it's under my USD$1000 "bargain threshold", buy immediately.

Hmm I've seen many "plain" DK-1's sell for more than $1500 almost as a rule...isn't that about right?
Even the "pro" import Dinky's sell for around $900 new.

And "only" the signed Learn paint job / painted reverse headstock / reverse inlays are pretty awesome - and not easy to find.

thanks..I hope for some other opinions quick!

I tend to look on the very cheap side when buying used guitars, so my opinion is somewhat biased.

I'm the opposite of the "enablers" you see commonly roaming guitar-related Facebook pages who snap up every guitar they see at any price, and encourage others to do the same. Those people are addicts...

Buyer: There's a Jackson JS1 Dinky for sale near me. It's USD$700 with no case. It has its fair share of dings, the neck is warped, and it's missing most of its frets. Is this a good deal?
Peanut gallery: OMG BUY IT!!! AWESOME!!!!! GREAT DEAL!!!! RUN, DON'T WALK!!! YOU CAN ALWAYS INSTALL SEYMOUR DUNCAN PICKUPS, ORIGINAL FLOYD ROSE, AND LOCKING TUNERS LATER!!!!

I'd bet strongly that it's a refin that Mike did, but drop him a message and he'll get back I'm sure. The rev head and inlays are very cool..

Try facebook. Mike's a great guy, but he's also really busy so bear with him if you don't get an insta-reply!

Badass. Considering what a new custom shop costs these days, I would pay good $$$ for that thing (if I had any).

For a factory graphic as new as it is, $1700 or so would probably be a fair retail price for a shop to put on a tag.... don't think anyone should pay more than $1500 though... maybe less for private party sales and less if it's an aftermarket job. It's really hard to accurately price them. New customs are retailing for $4-$5k, but prices have increased and I don't think used values have much. Only putting it on ebay with no reserve can determine a real value... or put a make an offer price perhaps.

And don't mind me, I wouldn't pay $1500 for it. I probably would pass at $1k, just because it's not my thing. Sorry, even us old timers can't really accurately gauge the market right now.

If I could get $1500 in todays market I'd be happy.
People are snatching up USA Select Jacksons today in the $1000 ballpark left, right and center. So, given the fact it's a CS, $1500 would be acceptable to me considering the number of great deals available today on used guitars.

That said, a Maiden fanatic with deep pockets may throw money at you.

Thanks guys, I feel better now that I passed at $2500, even tho it's it's in new. unplayed condition.

I was very suspect of the price, but had never bought - or even seen for sale - a full on graphic Jackson like this..

The reverse headstock, painted not just with a color but with a graphic, and reverse inlays also really turn me on, I don't see why they wouldn't raise the value ??

Since regular ones go for over 1K, I think it's worth $1500-$1600 to ME.

I am a Maiden freak but did have plans to re-sell it eventually, because I prefer the soloists I have as go-to guitars.

I love the (missing) neck joint on the soloist...

Mike just told me he did that paint job after purchase...and I asked - he would charge me about $850 to do one (dinky body)

So if you put that fee on top of the price of a reverse headstock/inlay 2013 DK-1 ....

Still not buying it, but just sayin...

Is that a DK1? Looks like MOTO. Rosewood would be a strange choice for a CS but obviously possible. What is that trem?

the trem is a floyd. Reverse headstock and reverse inlays are also unusual, aren't they?
I have the serial number if it would make a difference, but plates can be swapped.
Ok, I admit I don't know what MOTO means

I asked about the Floyd because my eyes saw the route as a whale tail or something. I see it's the route now, which looks out of whack for the trem but it's probably the angle. Also, the fine tuners look more like the heavily painted or whatever ones they have on the JT-580.

MOTO= mother of toilet seat- the plastic used on the DK-2 among others.

The neck if it didn't have the paint would look like it came off a lefty DK-2 or some import reverse. Reverse headstock, reverse sharks, rosewood and looks like MOTO....
