  • Question/Advice on Possible Jackson Custom Purchase

    Hello All,

My son is falling hard for guitar playing over the last two years and I was looking to pick up something special for him since I want to really aid any interest in this art...our last name is Jackson, and he loves bomber art and history so I thought I should start here.

    Here is the listing; https://reverb.com/item/2306062-jack...-one-of-a-kind

Frankly I am a acoustic player and know little about Jackson electrics other than I have an early 90s Trans black quilted Ontario in my collection that is quite a player. Thoughts on this unique Jackson and any advice since there is little research I could find? Heck, I didn't even know Dan Lawrence's name until finding an old archived thread here by a past graphics painter at Jackson and some of the works he had done. Why has this beauty not moved? Not as concerned about any financial appreciation in the future but had no clue on value other than it would be something he would love and imagine would grow well with him (growing shredder at 14, currently playing a well worn Gibby black Explorer from the early 80s...my first electric from the House of Guitars in Rochester, NY.)

    Thanks for any feedback.

Dan still paints for Jackson on a contract basis I believe. His website is http://www.drlgrafx.com/ . I had him paint a guitar for me about five years ago.

I suspect the reason that hasn't moved is because the seller has it priced really high. You can find USA built Jacksons for around $1,000-1,300 and then have Dan Lawrence, GMW or Mike Learn paint them.

Here is an ebay auction for GMW to paint a guitar with camoflauge/war bird graphics for $400 http://www.ebay.com/itm/GMW-CUSTOM-G...EAAOSwI3RW9hS5

So for 2k you could have a newly refinished USA soloist, dinky or other jackson body style for your kid.

i'm a little suspect of this one...the body appears to be from a blue jean limited 88 (weird single coil position, carve behind the floyd)...not saying it is a parts mutt but i've never seen those features on any other jackson...d.m.

The seller has a story about that. Seems plausible I guess. It's badass but priced 2X or maybe even 3X what it's worth.

Very nice Dan Lawrence graphic. I am with the others, too much coin for a mystery or even correct Jackson. My Son plays drums. He is good at it when He can play them. We shopped together to find a trap set that was in budget, as well as His approval. Same with cymbals and other associated hardware, upgrades. What I am getting at is it is okay to surprise Him with something He "may" like, but, it could be a better outcome if both were pro active in the purchase of. He be happy, content. You be assured that that is what He wanted. Window shopping is always a blast with the kids

Thanks for all the input all. After sleeping on it, I am tending towards Murkat's feedback since we will have a blast picking out a new axe together as a surprise...and/or doing as Aso suggests and find a USA Jackson then have GMW place the graphic paint on her. Appreciate the feedback on this particular Jackson.

Hey, man, it's pretty cool having your name on the headstock isn't it?
I'm just glad my last name isn't Vigier--everyone would mangle it...
