Is this Alder or Mahoganey?

    Is this Alder or Mahoganey?

    I had another thread that I deleted by mistake. Anyway, I picked up an SL1 and not sure if the body is Alder wings or Mahoganey. What do you think?

    I'm having trouble posting pics here so check the link where I will have the pics posted.

    So I grabbed an SL1 and here are pics of the actual one I have. Is this body Alder or Mahoganey? I think it's Alder but could be wrong. The pics of the back show the body woods, that pretty maple top hides it well.

      Alder. Mahogany grain is much tighter.

        What year?
        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

            Ok.
            I could only guess as to the wood, so I won't bother.
            96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

              It's alder. Mahogany is darker, plus I don't think they made any production models of the SL1 in mahogany. They made the SL2H in mahogany, but they also had mahogany necks and not maple.

                Slayerville! HAhah, I was just at Starland on Sunday for GoJira, Opeth, and Townsend. Killer show.

                And yeah, stupid me, the grains on my LP look different but I've been fooled before.

                  Nice! My wife and I missed that show (and Overkill and Testament), as I've been dealing with a herniated disc and some back/leg issues and don't really think I can manage to stand for that long there. It's only a few miles from my house, too.
