Also a CNC - if programmed correctly - will not produce a 23 fret neck and ship it to customers.

"sipping whiskey and listening to Lillian Axe" - loved the old Lillian Axe albums!!!
As an owner of a CNC shop, that is totally false - sorry. Hand made guitars do follow a template but all the shaping is done by hand.

I was going to upload some photos but I seem my subscription has expired and I'm not loading them to a stupid photo site to post links. I've posted them before on here...

I am really curious on this one. Does Custom Select have "J" serial or "U" serial?

If you guys want to say that, ALL USA Jacksons are Custom Shop, except for possibly the USA Selects after Fender separated the Masterbuilders from standard production after the move to Corona but before CNC was added.

If you think the difference Custom Select and Custom Shop is about cork sniffing, you probably have insecurity issues and should probably seek counseling.

edit: Personally, I think the "Masterbuild" term is bullshit. If you buy into any difference between "Custom Shop" and "Masterbuild" you've been Fenderized.

There might not be really any difference in the actual quality of the instrument. But Masterbuild is built by one master luthier from start to finish. He might use some
CNC in the process or not, but it's built by one guy. Not so sure about the paint and setup tho. It is definitely a Fender thing. Regular CS has a crew of guys doing different things. Does it really matter? Not really if the end product kicks ass like mine.

I am very secure in my guitar preferences, no counseling necessary. LOL. Geez, bro, have we really lost the ability to laugh at ourselves over such issues? We're so locked on to our positions that we're offended by humor?

Again, and with all due respect, this topic is more about people's subjective opinions and preferences. Arguing like these things are "facts" is just staring at our own belly button lint.

My biggest issue comes down to the fact that before when I ordered Custom Jasksons I didn`t pay a Masterbuilt fee and now all of a sudden I do. It`s Fenders way of squeezing more $$$ money out of our asses. I also totally agree with Zeno about the Masterbuilt term being BS. Another way of tricking people out of thinking they are getting a better custom shop guitar and milking more $$$ out of us.

I'll expand upon that...it's like staring at your belly button lint from the inside and you need to clean it out to see because your head is shoved so far up your butt that the only way to see is via a glass belly button, and that obviously needs cleaning because you're blind!

J serial. I think it would have been good to have given them a different prefix (to avoid threads like this if nothing else LOL), but at the same time, they're all made to an individual order instead of in a batch, so I guess 'J' does still make sense..

well, I have a true customshop with mike shannon's signature at the back of headstock but no certificate.
Don't think they always toss in a certificate. But if you ask they will.

I realized I forgot to put a at the end of that. That was a sarcastic jest. lol

I think Custom Select is amazing, personally. I wish it had been around longer. There's no real difference between any USA Jackson, it's more factory specific than era or anything else. I see the difference, but it doesn't make me think any less of a guitar because it's Custom Select or a Masterbuild. It's not like it really affects the guitar's value either, USA Jacksons just suck in that regard.

To the average aspiring guitarist, there's no difference between a Masterbuild and a JS series. They all have the same logo and that's how they're judged by the masses.
