  • Amber Lager Burst - Pics?

Does anyone have any good pics of Jackson's amber lager burst finish they can share?

The only ones I can find via google are some Charvels from RTM in UK, and they're not the greatest pics. One looks like it has a satin topcoat, not poly. And I think the other is actually a Solar, but is mislabeled. There was a DK on Reverb, too, but those pics are pretty crummy too.

    Anyone? ...Anyone? ...Bueller?

Don't know how you googled Pat...

Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Gotta admit the ALB’s in all these links are particularly shitty. Even crappy on google images. Very odd.

i have to see if I can find shots in my old photobucket acct.

Eh, even those don’t look right. Guess that finish washes out a bit when photographed. Has a bit more depth to it.

Xenophobe owned that, and I'm pretty sure that is Solar/Amber Sunburst or something close to it.

Ian - yeah, that’s the same DK from Reverb. There’s a different set of pics of that same guitar on there, too.

Vass - photofuckit linkies no worky. And pretty sure that last one - the RR - is tobacco burst.

Johnny and Joe - yeah, pretty sure that’s solar. The better original version, not like they do them now.

            Thanks anyway, guys.

If anyone else has pics of amber lager burst, keep them coming.

              Try that one.

The soloist and the RR are identical in person.

That one worked. Looks like amber sunburst, though. Original style, too. Not amber lager burst.

I mean, maybe they just changed the name. But they used to be two different finishes. IIRC, ALB was started when Jackson debuted the Sweetone series. So there was a time when they made both that and amber sunburst. ...Maybe it was just marketing mumbo jumbo, though. You know, a way to make the Sweetones seem more "exclusive".

I found a couple of good ones! How could I forget our bro busdriver's so-very-cool Charvel info chart? Doh! Such a great resource.

So, to my eye, basically looks like an aged or darker version of Solar. Maybe halfway in between Solar and the old Amber Sunburst. I dig it.

Top one just looks like solar to me. I thought the ALB was more 'red' than the orange of the bottom one too..

Two more: Sometimes it looks indeed a bit more than Solar, but I think that it depends on the lighting.

Yeah, those two are the RTM guitars I referenced in the original post. Pretty sure the top one is actually Solar. They had listed it as Solar when new. Then they got it back again as a used guitar, and mislabeled it as Amber Lager Burst the second time. I believe the bottom one is actually ALB, but the topcoat looks low gloss to me, so possible satin instead of poly.

Ian, you might be right about the rosewood board’d one. It does look more Solar-ish. But, as busdriver says, the lighting in pics can sometimes be deceiving. And there seems to be a fair bit of inconsistency or variation in J/C’s trans finishes in recent years, too. Almost like they’re no longer following a formula or matching a sample, just going for “close enough”.

It was Solar. Here's a picture of the back, if you don't have it and want it lol.

Xeno, I forgot that was flamed koa body and neck. Such an absolutely gorgeous guitar.

I believe it was actually flamed Korina. It had a neck approximately .950+. It was truly the thickest electric guitar neck I've ever played. It made an LP feel like a speed neck. lol
