  • 1990 Eerie Dess Swirl - Just bought

    Hi All,

I just bought my dream guitar - an Ontario made Eerie Dess Swirl Rhoads.

The guitar is being shipped to the UK as I write and I have a couple of questions:

    - I have the serial number U00049 and the build card - Ontario 4/20/1990, very happy with that.

    - Looking at the headstock in photos, it seems the Jackson logo is painted on and not in mother of pearl - might be the photo but it looks different from other similar RR1s

    - Do these come with original Floyd Rose or a Jackson licensed item?

I know it's a bit of a risk to buy unseen but I've taken the plunge and time will tell.

    Thoughts?

It should have the Jt-590 schaller tremolo. I dont see anything odd in the logo probably the flash is making it appear white.

      And they were stamped Jackson.

Thanks Both. Yes, then that looks the right item. Grainy photo but I do see the Jackson stamp on the left side.

That logo is painted on (silk screened to be exact).
Common on many USA guitars at the time. (90's white logo)
If it were MOP, you would see break in the logo between the "s" and the "o".
MOP logos are 3 piece. J, acks, on.

Thanks rjohnstone, I think that's it too. It's not the MOP logo as - like you say - no breaks between letters.

Had a check and the tremolo is as suggested, all seems legit. I think the seller took some awful photos which is why I think I got a really good deal.

Always wanted one of those. It was made in 1990 - the year "Rust in Peace" came out, so there's a strong link with my favourite album recorded on Jacksons (I also have a Japanese Kelly for my Megadeth set w

I'll post photos once it lands. can't wait!

              Legit, don't worry
Typical for that period, I also have a Soloist with that logo and the Takeuchi/Jackson low-pro bridge

No big deal, really. I had an RR1T from 2000 that had the MOP logo and one from 2004 with the silk-screened logo. Not sure why certain models don't get MOP.

Congrats on the new guitar coming your way. Can't wait to see pics.

                  It's here.

By god what a weapon. Restrung, adjusted the tremolo, new battery and now I'm not getting any work done the rest of the day.

First song I played on it - obviously - Holy Wars.

Only thing I have no whammy bar for it and I'm not sure where to find one that fits - trem is the Jackson branded Schaller Floyd Rose.

Ah, and the headstock logo is indeed MOP. Photos had fooled me.

I'll take some proper photos later on. Thanks for reading.

You can find them on music stores and online stores too.
https://www.thomann.de/fi/schaller_t...ack_362003.htm for example. And i think the OFR trem arm fits in it too.

                        Thanks! Ordered.

I used the guitar for practice. With the home office amp - a crappy Line 6 spider 3 - the guitar sounds quite "dark", and I'm confused about the use of the bottom knob, which seems to increase intensity but darken the sound. The middle one works as tone - fair enough - and the top one is the volume.

I put a used battery in it - in absence of anything else and I was desperate to play it - would that be the reason for the dark sound?

Strangely, on my JCM 2000 TSL and 4x12 cab + overdrive it sounds absolutely fine.

In love with this guitar. The craftsmanship is something else. I don't think I've ever played anything close to as good as this.

                            Looks great!

As for the sound...put a fresh battery in first to check and go from there!

I'm getting used to this thing.

The tremolo bar arrived. It was exactly the one I needed. The one for the other Floyd Rose is too thick.

Anyway, here's some thrashing the day I got the guitar
