Re: My candidate for the next GOTM

Well, it all started with the serial number in the auction - I figured it was another Fusion, and decided to ask for pics. The pawnshop owner sent me a pic of it and my testicles began to tingle so I asked about a BIN, she asked what I had in mind, I figured at least 6 others were doing the same, so I went with what I thought would sound good if the shoe was in the other ass, and she agreed

I think some of the other hunters may have spilled a bean or two about rarity and such since her reply to my email asking if the payment had gone through seemed kinda terse and sarcastic (she had just set up a PayPal account, and I know that usually takes 4 days to a week to establish, then another couple of days to process pending payments, and I was just being curious). So I get the feeling someone told her she was selling it for way under value, but at least she was honest and honored our deal

I'm such a CAD!

Anyhoo, I was contacted during the backdooring by someone else about procuring it from me, and I really don't wanna be a douche and start a bidding war (though it IS tempting to try my luck on Ebay - I'm such a greedy bastard )

Then again, even with crusty-ass strings it sounds sweet and plays like a mutha It's got a thin neck too - King V/RR1 thin

I may end up keeping this one (for a while at least).

Re: My candidate for the next GOTM

I forgot to add it's also got 2 shims in the pocket (back and bass edge) that look like they were put there at the factory, and the trem sits on the body - there is NO room to pull up at all.

Here's some of my trademark "Scare Off Potential Buyers" pics

Original EMG 85 with yellow/creme bottom (epoxy?):

Big ol' ding on the top horn/lump:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Topding1.jpg

Inside of trem cavity - the square hole leads to the pickup route:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Tremcavity1.jpg

Dings on the rear of the long tip:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Reartip-ding.jpg

V-trem screw holes:

The all-important neckplate closeup:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Neckplate.jpg

Ding on the underside of the rear bottom (control area) wing:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Wingding.jpg

Bass side of the top of the trem route is caved in slightly. Looks fresh to me (visible wood in the crack is lightly colored). When I got it, it was delivered upside down and mostly in tune (fine tuners brought it up easily).
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Tremding1.jpg

Inside the trem cavity. The mounting screws appear to have come all the way through. Can't imagine what the hole in the center was for - stabilizer?
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Tremcloseup2.jpg

Inside the trem cavity looking at the caved-in piece:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Undertrem-ding.jpg

Rear neck shim:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Pocketshim3.jpg

Very interesting shim in the side of the neck:
http://autumn-frost.com/SDStar/Pocketshim1.jpg

And there's no bevels anywhere like you normally see on C/J Stars.

Definitely a San Dimas route; the lack of solder points on the trem claw indicate either factory-original EMG or replaced trem claw (hole in side of cavity indicates it may have had a ground wire, or was just drilled for it but not used due to Custom Order).
The control cavity is not shielded, and the cavity cover fits VERY tightly (had to gently pry it open with a small screwdriver after removing the screws, which also felt tight in their holes - did the guy ever change the battery?).

The Floyd insert installs look good (recessed slightly, not flush) but there's a crack from the treble-side insert down into the trem cavity that I just noticed:

Now that's what a Shattered Glass graphic should look like.
Hey Newc, are ya gonna have it refined?
If it were me I would do as much as I could myself and send it to GMW to get it back to mint...
If you decide to get rid of it I would be happy to take it off your hands and get her looking SCHWEEEET!

Re: My candidate for the next GOTM

I have no plans do any sort of paintwork on it, and I will not send it to anyone to be refinished or restored. I see no sense in it. It's got a few marks, yes, but I don't suffer from "Mint Fever".

And here's the final version - strung up and ready to rock

Man, that shattered glass graphic is incredible. Fantastic "shimmery" look to it makes it look almost real! Killer score... no doubt about that.

That's a really cool guitar! That style of "shattered glass" looks so much different from the current version. And the pyramid inlays gotta be very rare, too. Congrats on an incredible score!!!
