Re: 7 string Select Series Option--Lets make it ha

It's been a while since I really played a seven string and even longer since I had a chance to A/B pickups. I can relate my pickup experiences with several baritones though. Without a doubt, the lower output pickups always sounded better. While a JB is one of my favorite 6-string pickups I think a lower output pickup might sound better. What do you guys think of a '59 in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck?

The problem I found with high output pickups with the baritone is that they always get mushy response out of the low B (or A on one of my guitars).
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

My 7 string jackson star is alder body, maple neckthrough, korina top. It sounds great too. A bit "crisper" than the RR. Everything else is the same... hardware, electronics, etc.

Matt, do you have any better pics of your guitars?
I have seen couple of pictures but they don't seem to tell me more details.

Nope... no good pictures. One day I'll take some, I've got four custom shops, a couple of San Dimas, and an Ontario or two. Honestly, I wouldn't hold your breath though... I won't be taking pictures until I put up my web site, and I'm not in any hurry to do that.

I think that's the extra string length - I've noticed that in baritones, too. (I'm assuming you're talking about longer-scale bartiones, and not just six strings tuned to B.)

The high output pickups I have in my 7s - a Duncan JB and a Distortion (my ESP has a Blaze, which isn't really high-output) - sound really good, especially the JB. Not muddy at all on the B, and it has a nice midrange presence. I really think the wood and bridge type are crucial to using high output PUs with a B string. (I think fixed bridges sound better, and I'm a Floyd guy on six strings.)

I would love to order something new.
Since there are 7string RRV,Soloist,DW, I would want to see Kelly or maybe JJ.
Something that will feel comfortable to play with both sit down and using strap.
As for the pickups,I would love to try EMGs.
And no trem would be my choice for the 7string.

I will go to custom shop quote and see how much it will be.

The bad thing is the price increase will effect in couple of days and I am not even ready to order especially I just put my deposit on another custom shop guitar

A 7-string JJ would be killer! They already did a 5-string of that a few years ago. I've always kinda wanted a Custom Shop 24-fret JJ anway, so a 7-string version is something for me to think about now.

I just found there is a 7string version of JJ in the 2002 Jackson Catalog..
It.s on Page 11 Roy Johnson is holding one.
I am not sure if it is also on Jackson website.
I will go and check later.
It looks so coool!

Oh yeah, the Low Gear guy! I just dug out that catalog and saw that. I never noticed it was a 7-string before. Too cool!!!

I for one would absolutely love a 7-string King V or Death Angel...if I had the cash to plop down for it (I'm going to be out about $1600, since I'm getting a new amp. Maybe if I break down and sell off my NES collection I'd be able to afford it...but that's like selling off your children. You just can't bring yourself to do it.)

Re: 7 string Select Series Option--Lets make it ha

Hey the therad has been on page 2 so I have to bring this up.
I am in the situation where I have to decide what specs to go with.

I have several ideas.

1.King V with SLS head
2.Kelly Black body with WHite bindings and with SLS
3.JJ2(neck thru) 7string version with graphic
4.Death Angel with reverse pointy

details on harware, I haven't decided yet and it depends on what body to go with.
I have this money I originally used for something else endded up as credit.
So I can use it to order a custom shop instead.
I am thinking of 6string but maybe good idea to go with 7strings since I wanted it.

What do you guys think?

Also wondering if 27" neck scale is available on 7strings or not..

Must be one hell of a collection! Do you have lots of rare games or something?

Guys guys guys... Do we never learn from the past around here??

So far this is what I see. The first thread with a great (but incomplete) idea. Then three more pages of everyone else taking that idea and making what they want out of it.

The only way limited editions work is for one person to say, "Hey, who's interested in x guitar with x options. I have a dealer willing to place the order, but I need x amount of dudes to go into this with me." Otherwise nobody will agree upon the specs. If you pre-determine the specs, then everyone who really wants the guitar will start plotting how they're going to customize it when they get their hands on it.

I don't mean to be gruff about this, but it happens all the time and just about every time it's a dead end. The LE guitar that Jon Villalobos came up with was successful because he limited options to basically a color choice. Now I see in that thread that people want to do another, but guess what, there's about 150 or so different opinions on what to do. I see a great idea coming to a slow and painful end.

Again, I don't want to be the bad guy. I'd love to see some of these guitars made, but someone has to take the bull by the horns!

Tekky, this thread has been dead.
Only I continued it with a hope of getting some ideas for my own 7string guitar since LE 7string will not happen and hoping others to learn something from it as well as myself
I don't even see the original poster of the thread anymore.

Sorry, I didn't look at dates and stuff. But it still rings true for anyone interested in trying to get a custom shop guitar built for less than custom shop pricing. The only trade off is that one would have about 20-30 more like it.
