[ QUOTE ]

I guess in 1999 or so we started seeing Ebay really start to be a factor and yet another group of collectors pop up bringing deep pockets and real buying power and built some massive collections like www.jacksonmuseum, www.usacharvels.com and some others I hear are in development.

        [/ QUOTE ]

Speaking for myself and my collection (www.usacharvels.com) eBay had some to do with it but I personally think I did it the way Bret and others did it too. That is finding the right connections also helped. I have (and had) the pleasure of doing repeat business with people that I met in the LA area (not via internet).

The deep pocket statement..is kinda true because I paid fair (over what others thought was fair back in the day) so I would get first right of refusal on other Charvels that the sellers had (knew about).

For example, Rob Lane when he sold off his massive collection I missed out. But Neal bought most of the Charvels and I later done many deals with Neal (probably 15 of my Charvels came from my Neal/Rob Lane connection). Got introduced to Rob L via GMW when I was hanging around out there.

Likewise another (non-internet deal) resulted in 7 a Charvel deal. It is these type of deals that help in the collecting world. Being fair to teh seller is the KEY- don't rip off anybody or throw out insulting (low ball) offers because you might get one but once the seller finds out he was f'ed in the ass he won't give you first right of refusal on the others. Treat the sellers like if you were selling, pay fair and you be surprised how much reapeat business one can get.

The key is to find a stash and not be prick but offer fair money. Finding them stashes though has gotten harder, last big stash was a year or two back; Squid Music. Again not by ebay or the internet but word of mouth from another collector.

Now more interest but the laws of collecting are the same...luck is a big part of it and treat people fairly.

A big thanks go to Rob W (www.jacksonmuseum.com) his website really thrilled me and as a result I did mine (www.usacharvels.com). For me my site is a free for all, take, copy lift what ya want...its meant to be fun.

        Cheers

Keep looking they are out there.

Some of mine also came from ROB L. Also some of ROB W guitars were mine. Mainly the ROBBIN CROSBY guitars.

He WAS a regular JCF member at one time on this new board. His post count must've been reset recently. Let's just leave it at that. Glad to have him back, and man, incredible collection! True guitar porn at its best. Love that K.K. Downing V!

Now, that's how you display a collection...out of the cases and on the wall!
Man, one of the nicest collections I've seen!
