Re: Jackson Wants YOU!

I think they've been doing a good job but, there is a severe lack of effort to get these guitars to the stores and even display them properly in the stores. I dont know if that's GC's fault or what but you walk in to GC and the Jacksons are all the way in the back of the store, with very little inventory and NO Charvel inventory at all. I would also like to see more BIG name artists playing Jacksons again. I think those a 2 key elements to getting Jackson back on top in the industry. JMO...

Two thumbs up from me. Kudos to John, Morgan, and everyone else there who has put work into strengthening the Jackson name and bringing Charvel back as a viable entity!!!

<font color="yellow">Can't say I like the porn queen marketing.(I'm not 14)
Can't say I like the 15% price increase.(I'm not rich)
Can't say I like the MAP issue.(Who in their right mind does?)
They dropped alot of long time endorsees. No Good...

I think they've done a great job of listening to what the players want.
Love the new non trem production guitars.(KV2T, SL2T)
1 thing I would like to see is the return of a non recessed floyd on a production guitar.
I think they are doing a good job of making the product visible.
I guess I'd give them a B-.

Produce the SLATQH with a Floyd (very low design cost). I like 22 frets, but everyone else likes 24. I'd also like to see a 1H version of the SL2H. Same guitar, just route it for 1H, 1 vol, and either charge a bit less or upgrade it to an EMG to keep the price the same.

M.A.P. price fixing sucks. How about updating the web site
more than once every year. Why not be able to view every guitar in every finish on the site. You can do that on carvin's site. I don't care about the porn star marketing.
On the plus side thanks for all the non floyd guitars!

I think that they are doing a good job so far.
I would like to see some changes, but not too many.

1. Remove the Dinky from Jackson and place it as a Charvel
2. Bring in some Japanese designs as USA. NASL anybody?
3. Introduce some new ideas to the Jackson line. Perhaps shortscale soloist with 24 frets, floyd and h/s config.
4. Bring back the winter/urban camo as usa select color.

Small stuff really.

Re: Jackson Wants YOU!

I would echo the desire for some strathead availability, especially now that the prime source for custom strathead replicas has been cutoff with GMW not offering that headstock option any longer.

I don't begrudge Fender for protecting their trademark, but Fneder should then fill that niche they've cut off.

But overall, I have to say that Fender has been very good for Jackson/Charvel. They seem more responsive to customers and are aware of the history of the brands and want to restore their glory, for lack of a better term.

Re: Jackson Wants YOU!

Let the custom shop do what ever the buyer wants for a price. If he wants a strathead, come up with a $ and let him decide if it is worth it. I haven't ordered a new jackson since the early 90's, but if they offered a "anything goes" custom shop, I would be the first in line!

+1

I'd really like to see some more variation, through different/new body styles (USA Select Demon, 750XL-style Archtop) or non-labor-intensive options (pickups (S-H), woods (really just mahogany and ash, please), frets (22 frets, in particular), and an optional neck profile/scale or two (at least one more Les Paul-esque). The USA guitars really do need more visibility, too.

Re: Jackson Wants YOU!

I ordered an SLS with a natural finish about 4 months ago.
I ordered an SLATQH in Trans Black about 3.5 months ago.

I have gotten no word on these guitars...it would be nice to get them. My Tobacco Burst SLATQH took six weeks. My pre-Fender SL2H Lightning Sky took eight weeks.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????

What I like:

The fact they ask for our opinions. I mean the highest concentration of Jackson/Charvel buyers are right here on the JCF.

I like their presence here on the board. the fact they give NAMM passes to JCFers is SUPER!! I hope I get to do that once.

Jackson's bad boy image. We are bad boys with bad toys. this aint the brady bunch. THis is rock and roll and heavy metal!!!We live it and love it. they have fender guitars for the conservative. And they have Jacksons to ROCK!!

Jenna in the ads. She is a HOT pornstar, whats NOT to like? iT fits the image!

The increased visibility is great. ie Zakk.

Eddie back with Charvel, this is big! EVH models are great.

Charvel back to usa models. There is a definite market for these.

What I dont like:

This isnt that big a deal YET, but the 15% price increase. Jacksons have always been a great value. Drastically overpricing them will be the end. Maybe a 5 to 7% raise would be less constroversial. Slowly raise prices rather than bigger price jumps. I know the cost of production goes up so they have to raise prices, but do it gradually every year. Its not such a big issue then.

Suggestions:

Keep the prices in check. Overpricing will drive us buyers away. Dont raise prices in lieu of getting celebrity regocnition. ie- DOnt pay big name celebs to play Jacksons and then rise the prices to pay the celebs. Not needed!!! Keep some KEY big name endorsers. DONT PAY celebs to play J/C products, but give regular discount endorsements.

Even though I play Jacksons, I still think you should offer the Charvels with the strat headstock. Your Charvel purists will love you for it and buy the guitars no doubt. the fender purists wont care because charvels arent fenders and they really dont care about other brands of guitars. you can only gain by doing this.

Your core base of buyers are already here with you, look after us and we will look after you. We will continue to be customers if we feel we are getting a good product for the money. again keep the prices in check. I am not saying to never raise the prices, just be realistic and dont try to gouge the buyers because Eddie is back and you have jenna posing so you figure you can get rich off it. Keep the quality level high, keep the value high by realistic prices and your customers will be loyal and continue to buy your products.

Overall I feel very good about fender owning Jackson. i have seen some very good things happen over the last year and a half. Keep up the good work FMIC.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE 3D NECK PLATES!!! I ordered a custom Charvel in 2002 and it only arrived with 3 weeks ago with a flat inscribed neck plate. I am upset with this. To boot it had to be shipped back to the Custom shop because the fret markers were left off.

Re: Jackson Wants YOU!

I'd like to see a few choices for the USA guitars, like a reverse headstock and perhaps a few simple graphic options, too. Given that Jacksons harken back to the '80's in some respects, it would be nice to allow people to choose a few low-cost options to get what they want. Personally, I'm more into solid colors and graphics on Jacksons than I am flamey maple tops, though I can appreciate them. I think Jackson has to be careful, too, of getting prices too high or they risk running into severe competition from custom builders who can do a lot of fancy things, options wise, for the same or less dough than Jackson.

Overall, I'm very hopeful that Jackson can regain its place among the top-end production brands under Fender's guidance. I don't want to see Jackson become like Kramer - a mere shadow of itself and simply a label for a large corporation to hang on import dogfood guitars.
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.
