I recently heard that Christian from Fear Factory will have a production model 7 string guitar. I dont know if it has been talked before but my friend sent an email to him and he responded :

"hey,
i don't have the exact specs on hand but i will put them on the website soon.
my signature will be revised by me this coming week.
and it will be avail sept/ock
it will be under $1000
finish will be 6 different colors.
Red,silverburst,black,dessert camo,sfgreen,natural

Fender makes me a custom Fender Bullets set 052/010

i'm guessing this will be an import then, with the under 1000 tag price? (even though this is in the USA forum?) or a really nicely priced USA?

sounds cool though, if the one in the case is a proto, it looks like a sweet piece.

I would love to try one of these 7string guitars.
I think if these become available by import guitars with less than $1000(list?) they will sell.
Hope it comes with real EMG and Ebony.
I don't see many people spending 2K+ of sales price for 7string guitars.
If I would spend that much, I would love to order a custom shop 7string with 100% of what I want it to be. [img]/images/graemlins/drool2.gif[/img]

What the hell is up with Christian using a 52 for the lowest string? Dino used to do that, too. Anything less than a 56 will be too thin for B or A tuning, IMO.

Damn, I`m using 10-52 for D tuning. You`d have to have a REALLY light fretting hand to play 10-52 in B, seven string. [img]/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img]

I used 10-52 too.
It seemed that the low B needed heavier string and it was so hard to keep in tune.
It felt like 42 on low E which I hate.
I would try 56 next time I buy a 7string.

Yeah, he must use a pretty light touch then. I use 11-48 Power Slinkies for D tuning on my Carvin with 25" scale, sometimes drop the D to C, and that's the lightest I'll go. I had those on my JJP tuned to D, but it's a 24.75" scale and it felt a little floppier, but now that guitar's tuned to Eb so it's better. When I had my 7-string (tuned standard or a half-step flat), it had regular 10-46 with a 56 for the B and that was perfect. Anything lower than that for that tuning is just much too light and floppy.

Yeah, I use 11-58s on mine tuned to B flat and it sometimes still feels a little loose to me. But I have heavy hands.
