Re: Unbelievable Score! SD Rhoads!

Thanks everybody! Well, the pickup routs DO have ground screws still in place. Plus, there is some red overspray in those cavities as well. Jim, I think you are correct on the late 85 early 86 estimate. It's definitely a San Dimas Rhoads and not am import (Pro). Yep, I figure that it was stolen at some point and that's why the serial # was removed and the paint stripped. Still haven't heard from the store after they tried to contact the guy they were selling it for. I told the manager to emphasize to the owner that I didn't care that it may be stolen, I just want to know the serial number.
So what do y'all think.....send it to GMW for a refin?
Or get creative myself and paint it? Or sell it? I have 2 super nice USA Rhoads, one of which I am selling already. Honestly, I bought it thinking that I could sell it at a profit and still give someone a hell of a deal on a USA SD Rhoads. I'm not a flipper by any stretch of the imagination but I could sell it for 400 even, end up positive on the transaction, and still give a JCF bro a deal and a half. Just thinking out loud. Since the points and body are in good shape, it might be worthwhile to send it off to refin it in the original red. Jim, I'll send you all of the pics I took. Hell, I'm happy knowing it's probably an 85/6. Thanks again for the help.
BTW, if anyone has a King V or Rhoads that they need a case for, you now know where to ask.

From what I have seen, Jackson started doing the ground screws between March and May 1985.

Still very cool. Go with a bright florescent blue with hot pink pinstripes

Re: Unbelievable Score! SD Rhoads!

Nice score, man! Congrats. I think J/C sometimes used red primer, so that may not have necessarily have been her original color.

BTW, if one of those extra cases would fit a Charvel Reissue strat-body, I might be interested. If and when you're ready to sell, shoot me a note and price.

My Jan 1985 Rhoads USA (RR1050) has a single piece neck (with a bit added to the headstock). The pickup routs were also glossy black, as wa the body, so that doesnt match up with Newc's theory.

Was yours a refin?

Maybe it depended on who painted it?

I would paint it yourself if you have the capability (no spray bombs). If you don't mind being into it for a bit more money, I'd sent it to GMW, have them fill the Kahler route, veneer the top, and make it a string-thru with your favorite finish.

Re: Unbelievable Score! SD Rhoads!

Oh, I like the Stryper graphic idea! Thinking about it, since it no longer has the original finish or serial, it absolutely wouldn't hurt its value to have it refinned. Of course, I have to consider that the Stryper finish is probably about 600 bucks...add in shipping and other incidentals and I'm over what it's worth. Maybe not.

I might be in the minority, but I actually like how that looks with the bare wood and all. Excellent score and congrats.

One-piece neck/head - the JCF Rhoads is like that, and they won't do it anymore IIRC.

My JCF Rhoads is 3 piece neck thru. The lines of the seperate pieces can clearly be seen through the finish.

Oh, and really cool find you got there.

I found what appears to be a 4 digit work order number written under my trussrod cover of my RR custom. Try looking in there.

Refinished now, but when i got it, it was original. I really doubt they would risk damaging a fresh paintjob by routing pickups after the fact. Maybe what you have seen was shielding paint???
