Re: SL2MAH in Da Hiz-owse!

Interesting stuff Jack! The only mahogany guitars I've played are acoustics. You must get a crapload of crushing low-mids using your EMG-85s in your mahogany guitars that you probably don't even need a bassist. I'm using an EMG-85 in an alder KE3 and I still think it's crushing enough.

I not only want your axe... but whatever job you have that lets you afford all these guitars!!!

Well, I only have 3 guitars at this time: SL2MAH, SLATQ, & a Charvel 3b. So it's not like I have an arsinal. I have one of the Chlorine SL2T's on order with Scott at Vwall too. I suggest anyone who wants one to call him soon. He only has like 4 or 5 out of 10 left, and they are cool. I cant wait to hear the 18v EMG's! When they come in and he posts a pic, they will go fast.

As far as the "killer job" thing goes, I really don't make tons of money. The thing is I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, so I have a few bucks to save for gear. I look at gear as an investment....sometimes it pays off... sometimes not. I am in business for myself. I do signage & design logos (I did the new Vwall logo). In a month or so I am purchasing a laser engraver that will do all sorts of things... including custom inlay Should be cool. I will most likely offer my services to forum members at a discount. I have already spoke with Scott and Budman about it. Well see what all I can do once I get it up and running.

Quite a nice looking guitar. Good-looking top on it.

NOTP, you wouldn`t beleive how crushing an 85 in the bridge of a mahogany guitar is like, plus useing a VHT Pittbull CLX and a monster Madison 4x12 cabinet. I have had china ware fall out of the china cupboard. I love mahogany and EMG 85s. Jack.

Jack, I know your custom shop shop is on hold, but did you see the CS archtop on Kev's site? solid mohagany with all black binding (including the body!). He doesn't have any pics, but it sounds sweet.

Very Nice Doug !!

I agree with you Jack I love my 750s for that very reason the 85 is just brutal and the short scale helps a little to .I have also knock stuff off shelves.Even the JB sounds good in my 750.No where near as bright as it was in my soloist(which has an Invader now).

Ya man, I figure Alder is for Stratty type stuff, which
I dig once and a while with Reverb, but for the most part, it`s cruching mahogany for me!! Jim, I didn`t notice it yet, but i will take a peek and I can see the Custom Order fading away into the sunset for good. I am out of dough and they raised the prices by 15%, that last one did it for me. Jack.

Jim, just took a peek. I would ove that guitar man, but the Reverse headstock just isn`t my thing. If it didn`t have a reverse headstock, I might be making payuments right now!! Jack.

Re: SL2MAH in Da Hiz-owse!

The catalog has the sl2hmah with a flamed maple top and not just a mahogany body. So does that mean the mahogany underneath is just for weight? Will the maple top take away from the tone of the mahogany and is it worth it or just get an alder one.

Re: SL2MAH in Da Hiz-owse!

The cap won`t affect it very much at all, the mahogany body is still thick and remember the neck is all mahogany. I would never by an SL2H unless it was a SL2H Mahogany. If you like a ton of mids, especially high mids get the regular SL2H, if not get he mahogany. jack.

I hear ya. I like reversed headstocks, but I'm not sure how it would look on that one. The funny thing is, I priced a custom shop arch top just before the increase, but didn't want to rush a CS order. The one on Kev's site is some what close to what I wanted, and the price is similar to what my order would be with the increase. I've been holding back asking Kev for pics, because I'm afraid of what a man with out any dough might do to get that guitar!!!!

I just got my arch top pro and put an EMG 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck. Until yesterday I hadn't had much of a chance to play it after the upgrade. Man you weren't kidding. It really screams. I couldn't be more happy with that combo. I was even thinking about putting that setup in my 87 Student arch top, but I'm really happy with the SD's in there right now.
