Re: RR-1 Poplar

i was just going to ask if there was a weight difference between the 2... but LPC's post answered that for me

it may be a bit off topic, but what causes the green "mineral deposits" i nthe wood? i've never heard of that with any other type of wood (and i lay hardwood floors as a summer job.. i've seen some strange wood)

TJ - Aren't the HX bodies more sculpted/tapered on the edges like the Stealth or Ibenhad Sabre?

Nope, Dinky HX has a regular Dinky body.

And to further complicate things, there was actually a Stealth HX that didn't have the tapered body... regular Dinky shape.

Strange what you guys are saying about transparent finishes on poplar. 1959burst... remember him? He made an LP Doublecut shape guitar, Firebird neck, and the body had a wicked orange poplar top on it, very distinct from a figured maple top.

              Re: RR-1 Poplar

i find it weird that an RR-1 was made from poplar instead of alder. are you sure about this? i wouldn't think they'd use that on top end jacksons.

Are you sure Dreamland? Poplar isn´t a good wood? I will receive the Poplar RR1 tomorrow, and you let me a little disapointed if it´s true...

                  Re: RR-1 Poplar

It's true, lots of old Jacksons and Charvels used poplar. All the neck-thru Model Series Charvels are poplar, the bolt-on Models are basswood. Carvin also used to use poplar as standard and then eventually made the switch over to alder. EB/MM uses poplar in a lot of their models, too. It's fine. I'd personally use poplar over basswood any day, though.

Nobody said Poplar wasn't a good wood

It isn't normally used for stained/colored finishes is all.

                      Many guitar makers use it

I received the RR1 today, and it´s simply awesome. This thing has monster tune and sustain too. Cool finish and all parts has nice quality. The best guitar i have played... Another cool thing i have founded it´s the variation of lightning sky. Without light, the lightning´s color is white. With light, the color turn blue... I attached two pictures with this effects. And sorry about the bad english, I´m Brazilian...
