• Finally tried the KV2T - My impressions here

I tried my first KV2T today through a Mesa F30. Never mind the sound... I can never dial in a good sound at music stores. The guitar itself was surprisingly lightweight and acoustically loud. I loved the inlays on the volume and tone controls. The sharkeye fretboard inlays were also gorgeous.

I totally wasn't prepared for the TOM bridge on it, having played Floyded electric guitars all my life. This honestly has to be the first fixed bridge electric guitar I've spent a good deal of time trying out. It sits nice and high off the body but I didn't notice any 4-degree neck angle like on my Shannon, which is strange because I thought TOM-equipped guitars had the 4-degree neck angle. I guess the TOM was semi-recessed into the body... whatever.

I find that the RR shape balances nicer than the KV shape when sitting down with the guitar in the classical position. I tried to squeeze the lower wing between my legs Glenn Tipton style to stabilize the guitar but it went nearly vertical.

I didn't notice the 24.75" scale length, honestly. It plays like any other. The PRS Custom 22 I also tried out today also felt like any other scale length. I guess I'm not too affected by scale lengths around 25 inches, give or take one inch.

Overall verdict: The KV2T is a nice guitar but not for me. I'd rather have a Floyded KV2 or a 24-fret RR if I wanted a V shape. I badly want to try out a KE2 though.

I also felt the neck of a DK1 just to feel what an oiled neck is like. It didn't feel as slick as I originally anticipated. It just feels like a satin neck like on some of the imports. I guess my expectations were set too high.

Hey good review I almost got a couple of string thrus but I'm a floyd guy too. As far as the dk1 ,you said you felt it. Did you actually play it ? I like the feel and the profile better then any other Jackson neck.

I just felt it... I didn't play it because I hated the way it was set up. The Floyd had its ass in the air, the action was sky-high, and the strings were ultra-uber-mega crusty. I guess I'm a spoiled brat.

I should try one and see how it will play.
I love it but yea, every guitar plays differently.

Cool, thanks for the review.

How about the neck profile? On the KV2T, I mean. Thick and meaty, wide and thin, or what?

As to the DK1s, that's why I love them. Killer neck profile. Best in the Jackson USA line, IMHO. Nice and thin/wide, kind of like an old SD Charvel. I dig oiled necks, but that's not the big attraction to me. Painted is cool, too.

I agree 100% I've got another on order from VWall the silver swirl.

Re: Finally tried the KV2T - My impressions here

The neck profile was comfy, thin and wide feeling but not as paper-thin as an Ibanez Wizard neck profile. It was a lot like my 1998 Shannon Soloist, which supposedly feels like a San Dimas. I wouldn't know about the San Dimas bit, seeing as how I've yet to play one, but I imagine it's sort of what it's like to play one when I play my Shannon.

...I KNEW I should have tried that DK1 but it was set up so unbelievably horribly that it almost turned me off. That's a huge problem for me when visiting music stores... I can't get over how BADLY their display guitars play.

Do they come with 24.75" scale?
I didn't know that..
What about frets?
Are they jumbo?

Re: Finally tried the KV2T - My impressions here

I think only a few of the earliest KV2Ts made it out with 25.5" scale. Watch out for those, they're super-rare.

On JacksonGuitars.com, it says the KV2T's frets are jumbo. They felt like the usual jumbos that Jackson uses, so I'm pretty confident.

The one I tried was the exact same color as the JacksonGuitars.com one... gun metal grey, I guess? I was surprised at how much I liked that scheme, considering I hate anything except plain black.

Maybe it's an unfair assumption, but I've always looked at the KV2T as a Gibson Flying V Killer. Similar features but refined Jackson-style. It seriously is a gorgeous guitar in person and is very light and acoustically resonant. Jack (slayer) would LOVE this guitar... MAHOGANY!!!!

I got one a few months ago and it made me a believer. I have an older Gibson V that adore, and the V style in general rocks, but that KV blew me away. I want, no I NEED more! I got a KV2T then a few weeks later a KV2 fell in my lap...so I am building. The KV2T though is fantastic...if you have the means you should get one, it does not dissapoint!!

No doubt - that KV2T was killer. I know it is only a matter of time before I get one again
