• Random thought: I love Jackson guitars.

I don't know why, but I feel I should post this. Recently, I have really fallen in love with Jackson guitars; especially the USA made San Dimas era guitars. Now, I have always liked Jackson’s and they have always been my favorite brand of guitar in terms of how they play and look, but these last few days, my feeling towards Jackson have changed.

A month or so ago, I got really lucky and scored a green crackle custom shop soloist, which many of you have seen. This was far from my first Jackson, but it was my first actual Soloist. After this, I started to feel G.A.S. kick in, which is normal, so I did my best to ignore it. However in the last two days, the **** really hit the fan. I made two really killer deals on eBay, the first is a 1985 Soloist Custom, the other is a 1985 Soloist student. I am bouncing off the walls waiting for these guitars to come. Since it is taking so long, I have been searching for ways to occupy myself. These generally turn out to be reading Jim Shine's Soloist site, or searching through old threads on the JCF. Except now something strange is happening.

I find myself thinking, what the hell is wrong with me? I feel like I am falling in love with these Jacksons, especially the early ones. For a while, I had an interest in playing some Gibsons and old BC Riches. Both of which are cool in their own respects, but they sure as hell are no Jackson’s. Now this feeling has been biting at me, like I have cheated on my beloved. My Les Paul is gone- my BCRs- are on their way out. Hell, I need more Jacksons. I pick up my soloist and close my eyes and my soul is drawn out of me, and into the guitar. Taken back to that special time where the pop art graphic didn't look "soo 80's".

It is a weird feeling, but it is something so special and inexplicable that only someone with the same affliction could understand. Jacksons Anonymous (JA, or JCF?), three step program to help you buy more Jacksons. I've played a lot of cool guitar, but for me, emotionally, guitars are like women. You can play with a lot of cool ones, but there are only a few that you are head-over-heals for. Those few stick around through periods of your life, while the rest disappear after a while.

I wonder if people who are Gibson / bcr / fender "loyalist" feel the same? I've always liked / favored Jackson, but only recently have I been truly enchanted by that feeling and fallen in love with their guitars.

Yup. Got the Buick fixed, so I can bring my recent scores.

Re: Random thought: I love Jackson guitars.

I recently sold my BC Rich, Ibanez and Fender (95 Strat Plus) for 2 reasons. 1. Financial, got in a bind needed some funds (BCR and Ibanez). 2. Didn't play it anymore since I found Jacksons (Fender). I found my Jacksons to be a "superior" instrument to the BCR and Ibanez, and although I loved my Fender and it is a high quality instrument, it needs to be PLAYED, and I'm never (or barely) going to do it. All I will consider now is Jackson RR models..call it LOVE?? Ok..whatever. But yep, its all I play now.

I've had over 150 guitars (1964 -present) and played countless others and after getting my 85 custom soloist it's been my #1 guitar. My main backups are an 86 custom soloist and 2 Jackson made 86 Schon's other drift in and out but these are the ones I love the feel of.

I love my Soloists! There is just something about them, above and beyond how they play, feel, sound, and look. Maybe it's the combination of all four of those... I don't know. I can see myself owning a RR and another Kelly among others but I will always prefer the Soloists...

Alex, i think i know how you feel. My budget is tight at the moment so when GAS kicks in (twice a month) i start modding the hell out of one of my guitars. That is not necessarily a good thing, but it's the only thing that keeps me from going nuts.

Now, you don't need that Warmoth scalloped neck, do ya'? It's not a Jackson, so better sell it to me

Paddok, I know exactly what your saying. I found this in a local music store on January 2nd. 1985 soloist J1459 got it for $500 In fantastic condition. At first I hated the color. It had a pink hum in the bridge and a white hum in the neck. I replaced the pickups, with Duncan’s, had her set up and she is now my #1 player.
