Re: My new Shannon Soloist

    Have one, love it...nuff said!

Ok, maybe not, I really dis-like the Pearly Gates pup. I think the PG works nicely in the neck position but as a bridge pup it is weak. I have been wanting to toss a Demon in it but I just can't seem to make the mod, damn purist in me! Otherwise it plays amazing, I love the acoustic resonance and the feel, bound frets make all the difference, WOW!

OK, let Shannon Picture fest '04 proceed....

Hope that's enough Shannon p0rn to hold you guys over for a bit!

    Enjoy!
    Mike

Hey Rem... That's the first PG I've seen with the SD logo on it in a Shannon. Has yours been replaced with something else? From what I've understood, all the PG's that came in the Shannons at least... came without the logo..

hey by the way, what Pickup would you guys recommend as a replacement for the pearly gates?

i was thinking about a JB, but how would that work in such a bright guitar?

im looking for a Pickup thats good for both chunky rythm, and wailing leads...

              Re: My new Shannon Soloist

              Tom B, thanks man!!

Yes I am sure its a PG, tho I dont know if it's original, the wiring sure looks like it to me, doesn't look like it has been messed with. As for PUPs, the JB is a great pup but I really like the Demon, for me its perfect, everything that I look for in a pup. Now it certainly doesn't work well in EVERY guitar, but in the neck-thrus it sounds killer. Course it helps a bit that I use a Dual Rect as well!!! :-D

Anyway, good luck with your Shannon, I love mine!

                Re: My new Shannon Soloist

Replacement for the Pearly Gates? The DiMarzio Super 3 in my guitar is close to what I want, but it still isn't quite there yet. I'll tell you what I love most about that pickup though... the harmonics fly off the fretboard like clothes off bodies at an orgy. It is a little bit nasal-sounding though, considering it's a very midrange-loaded pickup designed to be fantastic for cutting through like a warm stream of urine through a block of ice.

Considering what I know about the Pearly Gates, I think it'd be a bit too weak for my tastes, too. I prefer the sound of clean high-gain pickups into middle/vintage-gain tones for full sparkly cleans and fat thick warm distortions without being over-the-top.

Yeah, it was a great price. I can't believe no JCFers brought that auction up. I was watching like it a hawk. If only it were listed a month from now, I might have bought it. I'm trying to reduce my arsenal but a second Shannon would have been a great weapon to add.

I also drooled over the pictures of the "SL2H Shannon" from the recent NAMM.

ahhh Wolfe13 showing my old Shannon. Boy I wish I still had her...
Sold her to finance other gear purchases and as always regret it.
I never played it either, so beautiful. I play the heck of my other SL1 and looked at the Shannon. It was special.

Wolfe, let me know if you want to sell it.

Lots of great photos shown in this thread, with the exception of the crappy pics in that auction I posted. Gotta get myself one of every paint scheme someday (yeah right ).
