You could always go with a Duncan Custom Shop "'78" pickup, the
Evenly Voiced Harmonic (read: EVH) model.... it'll be a '59 on steroids....

i have a bunch of soloists with different pick-up combo's...screamin demon, emg 81/85, seymour 59 and JB. personally, i agree with blazphemer...the JB sounds great: bright, heavy but not too "hot". btw, full disclosure, this soloist with the JB is a string thru.

I have a Shannon Soloist with a Dimarzio Super II in it. It sounds good. Most of my Jacksons have Screamin Demons or JB's in them and couple with Custom Customs or EMG's.
I'm not sure why they ever put the Pearly Gates in the bridge on the Shannons from the factory as its a pretty weak pickup. It works good for a neck pickup in 2 hum guitars but I hate it as a bridge pickup.

I thought the DiMarzio Super 2 was more of a neck pickup since it's sculpted to have more treble zing than the Super Distortion. The Super 3 is like a thicker and more bottom-heavy version of the Super Distortion, which is what I have in my Shannon.

I swapped out the Pearly Gates with a JB yesterday. Major improvement! Now the tone matches the feel...Sweeeeeet!
