  • Trouble sourcing MOP?

Saw this comment today on a dealer's listing for a brand new SL2.

"Due to Jackson having trouble procuring mother of pearl for the headstock logo, for the time being the logo will now be painted"

I know the supply chain issues are making things tough but dang.

    [in year 2030]

    For sale:
I have a 2023 Jackson. This is not a Chinese knockoff. Don't mind the logo, it completely legit. it was applied by hand during the CoVid supply shortage. Trust me. Completely real. I have loved this guitar from day one. I am only selling because of responsibilities (family and bills). It is time to move on from music. She's gotta go. Again, completely real.
Public meet only. Cash or BitCoin only. No trades.
    Totally legitimate guitar.

No big deal, really. I had a 2000 RR1T with MOP logo, then had a 2004 RR1T with painted logo. A logo being painted or made out of a certain material doesn't make the guitar play any better.

But surely there will be a price decrease right?
Also will they paint the sharkfins too?

                Hello Everyone...

New here, my first post. I was looking for this exact subject. I just bought my very first Jackson guitar. Been wanting one for YEARS!!! I just got my new 2022 Jackson Rhoads RR1 yesterday, and to my disappointment, the logo is not MOP. It is a screened logo. I thought I was going nuts. I knew these had MOP logos. Now this answers that question. I am bummed about it. This thing is 4500 before tax. Sad!

why put any inlays at all besides dots?
why paint a guitar any color besides black?
why make a cool shaped headstock?

a lot of us value these premium aesthetic features and are willing to pay a, well, premium, for them. if it's the same price (or more) but you're not getting the feature, what's the point?

                  ...

I googled both "mother of pearl shortage" and "nacre shortage" and couldn't come up with anything. hopefully this doesn't become the new norm. I even have an ltd from 2022 with a MOP logo. granted it's not as big a logo as the 100% jackson logo...

                    ....
I was just talking about the logo, and that not all USAs had the MOP logo going back a long time. Not sure if there was any rhyme or reason for it.

the mop logos started in the early 90's with the usa series (may not be the right name but the series that included graphics like bikini beach, california sunset, etc) iirc...d.m.
