  • 1986 custom shop soloist

    Howdy Ya'll,

New here and thought Ya'll might like to see my custom built Soloist from 1986.
Story is: We ordered it in December 1985 as a Christmas present from my wife to
me. It was about a 3-4 month turn around time as it was a lefty too. I requested a
normal strat control layout and two humbucker rout. The initial order was black
and we had a few months to change the color choice if wanted. I was always a
McLaren race car fan from the 60's and 70's and was thinking of their orange. Then
Steve Vai showed up in the magazines with his orange eye ball Jackson. Real close
to McLaren orange So we went to the music store and our salesman called Jackson
with us there. He said he wanted to change the color on our order. They said no
problem, what color. The color on Vai's eye ball guitar. They said...I don't know.
Need to talk to the painter as Vai had mixed that color himself and it was not a
color thay had a code for. They said they would call back in a bit. They called
back and said...OK we can do it and thanked us! Thanked us?? He said the painter
has about t pint left and did not know what he was going to do with it. It goes on
your guitar. YESSS!! On the model card it shows Vai orange. Been with me since and
always will be. Been through a few pickup changes and a re-fret. It still has my
thrash days stickers on it today.

thats really cool. thanks for sharing!
..always love the 80s Jackson's w/ a Kahler. mine is an '84 (black h/h config).
wouldn't trade or sell for anything reasonable. same with the '84 rhoads (also kahler).

Great story, thank you for sharing and posting pictures. Love the Vai Orange. Oddly enough, I bought my first Jackson Soloist (Candy Purple) w/Khaler from the same store, Parker Music in Memorial City Mall around the same time. My sales rep was Dennis. Small world. Wish I still had that one. Again, thanks for sharing.
