1989 Price List/ New Rhoads

Does anyone have a copy of the 89 price list? I just picked up a really cool green Rhoads today and would love to figure out how much it cost when it was new. I have seen the catalog floating around, but cannot find anything about pricing or the full list of options. Also, does anyone know what this shade of green is called? It changes a bit depending on how much light there is. Serial number RR 2515 if you are curious.

That's pre-production so there wouldn't be a list I'd assume. All guitars/bass's would be customs (not custom shops) even though they were know as a custom shop.

Originally sold for is much different than original list price.
I've seen in recent years (a side effect of the internet), MSRP getting closer to street price - with some doing away with list prices completely, so that they can sell direct to consumers.
But back in '89, you could easily see an item tagged at $2500 with a "our price" of $800-1000.
Could you imagine in 2022, seeing price differential like that. Jackson's website would list these things at $7500, but you walk in to a Guitar Center and buy them for $2500.

The price list I am referring to is from the 89 Jackson catalog. It appears that you could order directly from Jackson. I'm not sure if this was the way the majority of guitars were purchased back then, but it would give me a good idea of price and what this color is called. This page is from the end of the 89 catalog. It refers to the price list I am looking for in the top left.

Rhoads Custom with a fixed bridge was $1500 list, plus case in 84-86, if that helps at all. I think Pin stripes were $140. Floyds were more, but when yours was built, there may have been no up-charge for the licensed Schaller. Iirc the case was $150

Wow so this one was probably around $2,000 in 89 or $5,300 today, which is about what it would cost to make a new one that is similar.

This was never the case. Jackson was never like Carvin, direct ordering/sales to customers was not allowed. All orders had to go through an authorized Jackson dealer.

The price list being referred to there was of LIST PRICES for custom instruments and options. Discounts from full list pricing were negotiated between dealers and customers, just as it's always been to this day. In the pre-internet days like 1989, Jackson was very up front about pricing, each year putting out a price list for instruments and custom shop options from which to design a custom build. But list prices don't reflect what customers actually paid.

And am I the only one who thinks that RR looks black, not green? I've seen some older black Jacksons fade with age too some greenish highlights, so I'm thinking that's black with gold pinstripes.

I mean if you showed me the pic and asked me what color it was, I'd say "probably black." but pictures of this sort are almost always a terrible representation of color so who really knows.

if it is a shade of green in fact, then it would also be hard to say what "specific shade" unless you had the build sheet. jackson could and did paint any kind of color at the customer/dealer's request.

I also thought black, but agree with metalhobo that it is a poor image.

And there is always the paint that never matched previous batches because the dudes got high during lunch.

Thanks for the info! It is indeed green. The shade changes depending on what light is being used. The top has a bit of hazing and weird abnormalities going on, but it is a dark military green like color. I am going to be filming a video in a little bit, and I'll drop a link once I get it uploaded.

Yeah doesn't seem like I'll never know. It has a bit of yellowing which further confuses things too.
