  • Replace Floyd Rose on Vintage 1989 Ontario SL1

Hello fellow forum members, this is my first post here I have been reading for years the forum but only recently registered. I would like to ask the experts here about some tech work that I am considering. I have a in mind a 1989 Jackson Ontario SL1 which comes with the Jackson-stamped JT590 Tremolo - do you think is worth replacing with a new OFR in terms of tuning stability and trem quality, and if yes, will it need additional routing/luthier work to fit or is it an easy swap? Thank you for your time and apologies if that topic has been covered again in the past

If there is a problem with JT590 then replace it with Schaller trem: https://schaller.info/en/tremolos/359/schaller-tremolo .Usually biggest problem is JT590s base plate which has no steel inserts for intonation bolts.

I don´t think OFR is that much better that it is worth of routing work, which it will probably need.
My Jacksons: RR1 x2, RR Pro, Soloist Pro, RRXMG x2, SDX, JS32RR

stick with the schaller trem (same thing as jt590)...it works just as well as a floyd...i had a schaller trem on an old charvel for 15+ years, never gave me an issue...d.m.

The OFR is an easy swap. But if your Soloist has a recessed cavity, the long poles may limit pull-up.
If you have a small sanding drill (like a dremel or your wife's self-care nail gun), you can do it yourself.

If there's nothing wrong with the Schaller JT590 then why replace it? If it needs replaced I'd go back with a Schaller because if it's recessed the route for the JT590 is shorter than an OFR route.
