  • Jackson soloist 1987: Broken truss rod?

Hi everyone. A friend of mine lent me for a few days his 1987 Jackson soloist (I'm a potential buyer) and I've gotta admit, it's a pretty fantastic guitar, but recently when inspecting the truss rod cavity I noticed there wasn't any hole for an adjustment key. Now, I'm not really sure how the truss rod adjustment should look like on these pre-production era Jacksons, I could be wrong but I fear that it might be a broken truss rod. I'd really appreciate your comments on this.

if your soloist is like my 1987 and 1988 strats it has a nut-style truss rod which takes a gibson-style wrench (though it is a different size than gibson). I'm not sure what the precise size is but the wrench which fits measures about 1/4" or 7 mm. see pictures

however, jackson used all kinds of different parts in this era so it is possible that your guitar has a different kind of truss rod. it's really difficult to tell from pictures if there's something wrong with yours or what.
