• Comparing the SL 2 to the SL 1

What's your thoughts on this.

I personally think the black binding on the 2 is quite nice. But no inlays?

Also the SL 2 was more of a 'bridge across the ' Japanese Pro and USA High End guitars gap, right?
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

I think it's a great looking axe. The colours that were available on the SL2 appeal to me, I dig the no inlays & the black neck binding too.

Of course, if you want inlays, there's always the current SL2H

Re: Comparing the SL 2 to the SL 1

Well, I'm not going for a new one actually. I've got a choice between

SL 1
SL 2
Charvel Model 6 (88)

and now I have to decide which one, because of a limited budget...

so a SL2H isn't really an option right now. I do like dual humbucker configurations though, I'm not much of a fan of anything in the middle position, it f*cks up my picking :/

so these are guitars you're actually looking at?

If they're just guitars on your shopping list, you still might find an older SL2H. Or a Charvel Model 5 if you prefer the double hum setup.

The Model 5FX might be another option you'd consider, it had a hum/slant single setup. Very cool

These are actual guitars I have the opportunity for to buy.

The Model 6's quality is on par with the Jacksons I think, but then again an original Soloist IS an original Soloist...

Re: Comparing the SL 2 to the SL 1

I had a late 90s SL1 and have a SL2.

Other then the cosmetic differences (Inlay, pickups, etc...), the biggest different is the neck profile, the late 90s SL1 has a thinner neck compared to SL2. But do keep in mind that the Jackson's neck profile varied thru the years.

My two cents

If middle pickups interfere with your picking, and you don't use that position often, then you can lower the middle pickup so that it won't interfere anymore. I do this with all my guitars that comes with a middle pickup.

I never new there was any difference between a SL-1 and SL-2, other than the PUP configuration.

There isn't any... between the SL1 and the SL2H

The SL2 and SL2H are not the same.
