I'd like to chime in here. Last week I got both a SL-1 and a SL2H, new. Although the specs for the neck dimensions on Jackson's web site are identical for these 2 guitars, the neck on my SL2H is obviously thinner than the SL-1.

The SL2H sustains better, without a doubt. I believe the reason why is that the 2 single coils in the SL-1 are pretty close to the strings. Is my belief correct that the single coils exert a pretty good pull on the strings? Assuming my belief is correct, that would explain why I had a helluva time tuning and setting the intonation with my Peterson tuner. Anyway, I tried lowering them last nite, and the lower I got them, the more they tilted in the body. Looks like the wire lead from the pickup, which is pretty thick, is getting in the way beneath the pickup, hence causing the tilt.

Well, all Jackson USA necks are finished by hand, so from each SL made, there WILL be noticable differences.
One "speed neck" will have a different feel to another "speed neck". etc...
There was a noticable difference between SL2GX #5 and #4. I didn't care for #5, but #4 has a completely different "feel" to it, thought the rough dimensions are identical.
