Well the long wait is finally over. A mere 22 months and 2 days and my King Kelly has arrived on my doorstep! I knew she was done a couple of weeks ago, but kept things quiet until she was actually in my hands, undamaged, in perfect condition. Jackson has outdone themselves with this axe. It is perfect, flawless in every way. Lee Garver and Dan Lawrence went over her before she was shipped to make sure of it. Here are the specs;
King sized Kelly w/the original style cutouts
Yellow w/black bevels
black reversed head w/yellow logo reverse fins
1 3/4 nut with black binding over the frets
non recessed Floyd, blocked at the factory(!)
Duncans - JB/bridge Jazz/neck
G&G Custom wood case
I made a couple of changes mid-production that were overlooked. I originally asked for a strat cup style jack, but changed to the standard Jackson football. She came with the strat cup, but it actually looks like it will work better with the Kelly shape, if you know what I mean. I also asked for the custom shop logo on the headstock. When she was being painted Tim Wilson contacted me and asked "This is really an old-school Kelly, it probably shouldn't have the CS logo on it?" Glad I listened to him, No CS logo makes this thing look even more bad ass. I quickly swapped out the Jackson strap pins for Schaller locking (I wasn't about to pay Jackson $50 or whatever for a $10 part). And with the first string change I will buff off the Seymour Duncan logos of the p/u's, this thing has to be completely old school, just like the originals. While I am thinking of it, does anybody out there have the old style Floyd Rose screw in module for the arm, in black. (not the collared style) I have asked Kevin Maynard to post some pics, so wait patiently I'm sure they will be up as soon as he can get to them.
Right now I'm just waiting a while to let the guitar acclimate to my house. She was pretty cold from her long trip. Once shes warmed up, its off to the music room, to put her through her paces! I'll keep you posted on the playability/sound etc. I have no doubt that it will play and sound every bit as good as it looks! YEE HAAAA!!!! Merry Christmas to me!
