A DK 1 is appealing, yet the bolt-on neck drives me away.

Unless you've got the hands of a 5 year old, a bolt on neck heel does not get in the way, and there is no measurable difference between the tone, sustain, or quality of a Jackson neckthrough and Jackson bolt on.

I must have the hands of a 5 year old then. I simply could not reach the 24th fret as comfortably on my KE3 and RG560 compared to my Soloist. My thumb stops right at the big square heel and I try and "climb" over the neckplate so my whole hand is inside the lower cutaway area and my thumb would be sitting on the neckplate but I found it too cumbersome to climb up there. Oh well.

Re: DK-1 owners can you help me out?

To answer the question is the DK-1 neck thicker thna the DK-2 Import neck, well the answer is no and same. The older Dk-2`s had just about the same thin neck profile as the Dk-1, but the new Dk-2 LE we just got has a slightly thicker rounder neck thna the older DK-2`s, a good bit thicker than my now gone 2000/2001 Dk-2 I use to have and the change is for the better. If the new DK-1`s have this slightly thicker profile on them, then I would buy a DK-1 over a Soloist, although I like them both, but i already have a Soloist. Jack.

I prefer the bolt on for the simple reasons that it has the UNFINISHED back and IF the guitars neck ever got damaged or whatever i can replace the neck.

Neck dimensions for the entire Jackson line are right in the catalog, available in our own resources area.
Neck specs

The DK1 is the thinnest neck in the USA lineup. Similar to a SD Charvel, IMHO. The import DK2 is even a bit thinner still.

yes the import DK-2 is the same exact dimensions as the ibanez wizard II neck which is 19mm at the 1st fret and 21mm at the 12th.
from looking at the DK-1 specs i think i will like the slightly thicker neck shape it has over the DK-2 that i tried

There is no way my DK2LE has a neck like a Wizard 2 neck and it is deffinately thicker thna a USA DK-1 neck. I think Jackson used a little thicker neck profile for these limited run Dinky`s. Jack.

Wow... I just did a conversion on the neck that I'm getting on my XTRR. It's 18.4mm at the 3rd (.725") and 20.3mm at the 12th (.800")... same specs as my custom Warrior... interesting.

You'll like the Dk1. I owned one, sold it, and I really liked the guitar. I personally prefer neck through, but that's my pesonal preference. If you play a neck through, you'll play faster, louder, under water, longer, harder, jump farther, get more girls, and 20 good drummers.

Bolt on, you may be getting a hand job, but hey, if it's more than you're getting now...go with it!

No seriously, it's an age old argument, bolt on, or neck through, tough call. My line up, it's 3 bolt ons, 2 neck throughs, 2 set necks. All about personal likes and dislikes, the DK1 will do everything you want it to, and then some.
