Re: A long waiting is over..

[ QUOTE ]
Here's quite an ignorant little question, I just never thought of it before.

What real significance does fingerboard wood have, when all your frets have been scalloped? The only effect that it'll have is in the area's straight underneath the fretwire, at most...

So when going for a full scalloped neck one should opt for aesthetics instead of functionality?

[/ QUOTE ]

There are pros and cons with scalloped necks.

If you play a lot of lead, it makes bending and natural vibrato much easier because your fingertips are not touching the fretboard.

The bad thing, if you play rythm and you clench or press the strings hard, some notes will go sharper than others, and you will sound out of tune.

I forgot to ask.
How does it sound with full Korina and is it light weight?
and what amp(s) do you use?
I would love to own a full Korina body/neck guitar too.

Well, the sound is really full and bright at the same time, and the acustic sound is very loud for a Floyd equipped guitar, I like it alot! Although the tone of Korina is often described similar to mahogany, my guitar doesn't weight more than a normal RR1. At the moment I have Tech21 trademark combo and a older JCM800 Marshall head

Looks great! What EMG pickups are in the guitar? The iron crosses look fantastic.

thats freakin cool, how do the scalloped frets feel i bet you can vibrato the hell out of those high notes

[/ QUOTE ]

You're right on that They feel ok, I took the scalloped frets because my fingers didn't 'fit' properly on the particular frets and because of that notes sounded fuzzy, now they sing out loud without any troubles!
Even so, I don't like scalloping on the lower frets/all neck.

Thank you for the answers!
I knew they are pretty light weight but hope the sound you get is warm.
Now I really can't wait to try a Korina body/neck guitar!

But I already kind of new that. My question was more about the combination of fingerboard wood with a full scalloped neck, and its importance (as can be read in my original question)

The Fretboard has just as much of an impact on tone as it does on a non-scalloped neck, because the transfer of vibrations is still String ->Fret ->Fretboard ->Neck

The scallops do brighten the tone a bit, because it´s not being "deadened" or "sucked out" by the fingers touching the wood anymore

Ah, I guess that figures. I would have thought the elimination of direct woodtouch would have had more of an impact, but I guess I was being presumptious. I've never played a scalloped neck before, it still seems a bit weird for me, not actually touching the wood.

Anyways: Thanks Zerberus! that's exactly what I wanted to know, again, you have a knack for answering questions!
