I have climbed to the top of the mountain seeking information from the wise JCF Zen Masters!!! I am in negotiations to buy an 84 San Dimas RR-1 ( serial # is in the mid 500's). My question is, what is the normal price range for these guitars? The guitar is a string thru body model and I would say it is in 7/10 condition. The guitar has been heavily played / gigged. There are alot of scratches through the paint, and the brass pickguard has extensive wear. Other than that the guitar is 100% stock and has had only 1 owner. What would this be worth? Thanks for your help.

Re: San Dimas RR-1 pricing
If it's a San Dimas, would it not have a Rhoads Custom or Rhoads Student designation rather than "RR1"?
Could you describe the guitar? Dots or sharkfins? Unbound or bound? Rosewood or ebony? Those are some of the general things that distinguish a Student model from a Custom model but not always.

Re: San Dimas RR-1 pricing
Its not the student model. It has shark fins / ebony / bound fingerboard. By heavily played, I just meant the guitar has its share of chips and scratches. It is by no means a " collectors piece". I dont remember the exact serial number but I know it was in the mid 500"s. NOTP, I only used RR-1 in the title to save some space and typing. lol

Re: San Dimas RR-1 pricing
If it plays well and the wood is pretty much all intact I would say you are safe at anything under a grand. If you gotta have it, it is pretty much all stock and you wont mind having it for a long time, you can pay a few bucks more. Pre-1985's in this configuration are certainly not popping up everyday.

Re: San Dimas RR-1 pricing
I got a 84 rhoads custom string thru black with black hardware, chips on wings and original brass rr truss rod cover for 800 dollars that was RR875. If you pass on yours let me know who has it and I will buy it. My SD RR is one of my favorite guitars.

Re: San Dimas RR-1 pricing
Well, like I said, it's real hard to price without pics. After more clarification after my initial 4-500, sure it's probably worth more, but pricing something like this without pics is nearly impossible to get within $500.
Look at the CS 85 that was just up on eBay for a grand, why didn't you guys jump on that?
