• my new babys pics RR1426 Student red metalflake

finally got it yesterday (after almost a years of begging)

i try to give a detailed description for you guys as it seems to be all original(for me at least):
it´s a 85 student rhoads in a wonderful red metalflake finish
the clearcoat feels kinda "sticky" why is that?
and the finish is not very even(orangeskin) due to the flakes
in the tremcav under the kahler (pulled off tape) you can read:
"MJ" or maybe "MS" and "5080" or maybe "5282"
in a very sloopy pencil writing
it´s got a kahler pro (with a thick plastic bezel beneath)
a J50N at the neck and a J80 at the bridge

it plays very fast although it has
rosewood board
really skinny frets (dunno if that´s still medium if not small)
quite a fat neck 20 to 22 mm !!

it´s got a standard 1 11/16 nutwith
a plastic bezel under the KahlerNut
a plastic plate on top of the headstock
you can see the outlines of the "Jackson TM MADE IN USA" decal if you look close
looks almost like the put 2 logos on it cause on some parts you clearly can see 2 outlines of the characters esp the TM is "shaded to double"
it´s got its correct nonlabeled 90degree tuners
and strapbuttons that are not brass under the black but show sth silvery
they have a quite fat lip (so theres only a small hole for the screwhead) as you can see in one of the pics

it has quite few wear for a 85 rhoads
just some minor chips on the tips
no damage to the wood and the primer
no scratches over body and neck at all
just some minor polishing swirls
greets
andy

Very nice! I too have a Jackson that was double logoed. It appeared that they shot the head face out in color after messing up and just went over the decal. Then they reapplied another one and cleared. You can see two decal outlines.

Damn nice color on that! Looks clean too!

big thanks guys
cool that you like her too
i just noticed last night that i talked shit about the Kahler locknut
it´s not mounted on a bezel
it is mounted on the trussrod cover
so you have to remove the locknut to remove the TRC
it tend to doubt that this is original
maybe jim you could shed a little light on that as you have huge knowledge of early jacksons
did they ever do things like this?
thanks again

It's very possible that they lost the original truss rod cover, and replaced it with a regular one, or perhaps did it to raise the locknut to reduce the angle it created on the strings as they pass over the nut. I've had problems with Kahler nuts before causing binding because of the angle. I cut a shim to match the shape of the locknut, but hey, whatever works.

Actually, that is how some early Jacksons had the locknut mounted...right on top of the trussrod cover. I don't think that's a very good way either..which is probably why they evebtually changed it to the mounting bezel!
