this guitar is cool that way, the trem is non recessed but there is a route underneath the locking screws so I can pull up further than I normally could with a non recessed trem I'll take a close up pic this afternoon and post it on here, I've never seen one like it

The route is not done far enough back to accomodate the longer floyd screws, are there shorter ones I can get?

All the 89's had the "recess" like that. Not a true recess but a scooped out area behind the trem. I call it the half-ass recess. Since the Schaller JT-590 is as good as a Floyd Rose Original (made in the same plant too) there's no sonic difference at all. Most players were content with the Schaller at that time. It's a mental thing today that you "must have" the Floyd.

Joe,Jim Mouridian checked this one out for me when he did the set up and a couple of the screws are starting show "stripped" , he said I could leave this one for a bout a year (without real heavy use) before stuff was going to need to be replaced. Other wise I probably would just leave it on. You didn't say "Black" or "Chrome" come guys I want some opinions on this, pick ups too, I'm open to all suggestions.
I play mostly old school metal so that is the sound I am leaning towards.

I prefer the OFR bridge base over that style. Those strip out so easily.

I would stick with black.

My thoughts exactly. Chrome works on some guitars, especially certain transparent finishes, but on most solid colors it has a generic appearance to me.

I love the matching headstock! What Duncans are you going to put in?

If I keep it, I may be moving it for something else I've had my I on that I may be able to fenagle my way, but If I do keep it I'm thinking duncan custom tb-5 at the bridge and two classic stack humbuckers (SD) for the singles, will will need custom bases on them that aren't as wide as normal,
but I'm waiting it out right now. Actually I played this thing a lot this weekend and the pickups that are in there are starting to grow on me, so I may just leave them. the more I play this guitar, the more I like it. the neck is really fast and smooth. I'm very undecided right now [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img] I should just keep it it's a real sweet player but that's the plan. GAS is a killer and I've got it bad right now. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

C750, I agree that quality wise the Schaller and the (Schaller made) OFR are equal. But tonally I hear a difference. The Schaller is a bit warmer, because the compressed metal baseplate rolls off a tad of the treble, wheras the OFR has a "steelier" tone.

The Schaller responds a bit differently as well, the range isn´t quite as large (not that big a difference, though. can still slack all but the high e and b on my 12s, and there we´re talking about a half step higher) and to me it feels just a wee bit "sluggish", so to speak a hint of vintage strat.

I recorded clips of both trems in my DK-1 last year just to see if I was right, and most people said they heard a fine difference in the clips, particularly on the clean ones. Axe setup was identical, no change in string height, bridge angle, pickup height or anything (gotta love digital calipers and strobotuners [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]), so nothing different other than the trem, was even the same set of strings, 1 week old.
