SL2H Question

I recently purchased a new SL2H and noticed this thing is very light compared to my other neck-thru Jackson's

E.G... 2003 SL-1, 1990 SL-1, Model 6, Model 5 and even lighter than my SL-3.

I also noticed the heavy metal back plates Jackson has used for years on the USA Jackson feels more like cheap plastic that has been brushed with some sort of coating. They still look the same, just much lighter.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

Are they making cut backs?

Why is this so much lighter? I like my heavy guitars.

I prefer my guitars not to be heavy.
I have a 2004 SL2H trans finish which is not particularly light, nor heavy. Just the way I like 'em [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]
It has the metal back plate too, with a brushed finish.
(they're not plastic.)

AFAIK nothing is getting cut backs, especially now that prices have gone up.

The weight of the pieces of the same wood type and of the same size may differ pretty much. It depends on how many minerals the tree had absorbed for example, and overall where did it grow...

I like my guitars heavy also. My 85 soloist weighs just over 9 lbs. It's the heaviest soloist I've ever seen.
