How many of you have gotten a guitar stolen/ruined
Re: How many of you have gotten a guitar stolen/ru
Had my blood-red San Dimas-era Soloist stolen out of my apartment many years ago. That really hurt--it was such a beautiful player. It may have been an employee project or an artist guitar, because I don't recall it having a serial number--which is one reason I couldn't ever get it back. That and the fact that there were only about a zillion blood-red Soloists floating around Los Angeles in 1991...

There was a soloist just like this on ebay about two years ago... really sweet condition, original floyd... no serial number. I tried for it, but didn't go high because there wasn't a serial... *shrug* Dunno if it coulda been yours, just remembering this one...

Back when I was around 15 I got my then holy grail: a white Charvel model 2. I loved that guitar so much at the time (yet strangely it's the same one that my friends dog chewed as mentioned above!), but one day I was one the phone and playing at the same time with the phone wedged between my head and shoulder and the phone slipped out and put a decent sized chip on the top edge of the body - I could have cried and swore to treat everything with kid gloves in the future!

this one isn't a huge deal, but I brought in my jackson to get a oickup switch at a music shop. When I got it back I npticed a decent sized chip by the strap lock on the back of the guitar. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before, but I have no way of proving it either, so I didnt do anything. Also, the guy at the shop always gives me great deals, so I didnt want to complain, still sucks though.

Couldn't be my old one--it had a Kahler. If I had known more about Jacksons back then, I might have been able to track it down around L.A. somewhere, but I was basically just young and stupid. Got my insurance check and bought a PRS, rather than another Jackson, since I was going into an "anti-locking trem" mood right around then.
Re: How many of you have gotten a guitar stolen/ru
Here's my story:
Years ago I had a Fender strat that was a surprisingly good
one - very low even action and great tone.
At the time I was living in the basement of my parents
house and I'd drilled a hole in the ceiling so I could
have an extra long phone cord to reach to a phone down
there so I could take phone calls while living in my
pseudo batchelor pad.
I had my guitars on stands for easy access and the
phone rang and I ran and grabbed it and the phone line
from the ceiling went taut and it gave the strat a good
hard shove forward and it went face first into a concrete
floor and snapped the neck off.
All of the knobs and switches on the guitar got pushed
INTO the body and numerous dings and chips occurred. I
even tried to repair the neck numerous times but it
never was the same after that.
I ended up selling it to an attorney who liked its quasi
relic look and he didn't gig and I did so I replaced it
with a Charvel Model 4 believe it or not.
Re: How many of you have gotten a guitar stolen/ru
OK, heres an almost ruined guitar, kinda. Back in the day, 1980 or so, my buddy's parents shell out the big bucks for a Carlo Robelli Tobacco burst LP copy. Wow, that was the shiznit. So my buddy decides that he wants to change out the stock bridge pickup for a dimarzio SD. He saves up and buys one at the local music store. He has no clue as to how to install the thing. But, he remembers that my dad worked for the phone company and was a ham radio guy and we had lots of soldering irons and stuff at my house. He puts this together with the fact that I was always good at fixing bikes so he elects me to do the surgery. So he brings the thing over, all shiny and new and we take it downstairs for surgery on, of course, the ping-pong table. I can tell hes crapping his pants as I take out all the screws and remove the tailpiece, write down all the wires, unsolder it all. He knows that if we kill it hes dead meat with his parents. And he had the type of father that was, lets say, a boxing fan. So I put it all back together and bring it to his house and it kicked major butt. We were so happy. When ever I get to see him, which is years apart he always tells that story to people that we're with. So, I almost trashed a guitar, sorta.
Re: How many of you have gotten a guitar stolen/ru
I parted with my guitars before joining the army in 1989. I thought it would be nice to have an axe in the barracks, so I took a chunk of my enlistment bonus and bought a Fender HM Strat and a little stereo crate amp. I paid 1200 bucks for this stuff. Occasionally I would go over to this guy's house and we'd jam and he'd show me stuff. I ended up leaving my gear at his place. He went AWOL and presumabley sold my gear for gas money to get home...
The funny part is that I got hold of his parents' address and sent a letter that made it very clear that I planned to hunt him down and kill him. The FBI gave me a ring shortly thereafter.
I actually did try to hunt this motherfucker down to kill him. Unfortunately, he took his own life about a month before I came knocking. I'm glad he's dead. Don't steal from me.

I had a 7 string Custom Shop RR stolen during the load out at a Savatage gig. I had the guitar for 3 weeks, played it at one show and it was stolen. My insurance covered the cost, but I had to wait 14 months for Jackson to build another one.
