• do they make kellys like this?

Hi, I'm interested in buying a Jackson Kelly in the near future, either second hand or new, as long as it's in great condition. I love the design, only there a 2 things I don't always like about Jacksons. Floyds and sharktooths. So the question is: have they made a decent amount of kellys (2, 1 or even custom) with just dot inlays and/or tune-o-matic or stringthru bridge? Or is that a lost conquest? I don't hate floyds and sharkfins, but I want to try something else now...

Appreciate the help

Yeah, I already guessed that
I don't really have the money right now to afford a custom order. So I'm basically looking for Kelly 2 or 1 with this set up

Thanx for the reply though

It's most likely out there, just take your time and keep looking.

They made a Professional series (Japanese) Kelly Standard with dot inlays. They also made a Performer series PS6T with dots. Both had licensed Floyd bridges. Maybe see if you can track one down if it doesn't have to be USA.

The KE1T, which was made for a couple of years, is a tunamatic string through body Kelly. It does have sharks though...

@toejam:
Yeah, I know lower budget kellys have had tune-o-matics...but I'm saving up to buy the most beautiful guitar I can find, probably jackson, and I want it to have neckthru...so, has to be american...I don't usually like Jackson bolt-on necks...the Rhoads I might buy is ok, but not great when you get to the heel.
I know this is a Jacskon forum, don't want to insult anyone, but Ibanez did a good job rounding the heel!

@mat:
Thanx man! I'll see if I can find one. I do hope so...I'll see if I can find a pic anywhere too.

Re: do they make kellys like this?

Yeah Ibanez did do a great job on the all access heel. Jackson should really consider swiping that (since Ibenhad stole their Dinky body design).

Anyway, the only way to get a neckthrough Kelly with dots is to go Custom Shop or hope that an older San Dimas-made Student model pops up for cheap, otherwise, your only option is to get a bolt-on Performer series (which are really not that bad).

There's also the early-mid 90's Kelly Pro Standard (neckthrough with dots) but those are scarce as hen's teeth. You can find the bolt-on Pros all day, but the neckthrough with dots were only done for one year I believe.

Re: do they make kellys like this?

I've got a KE2T in black but it's got sharkfins on it, sorry.

I guess it was back in mid 2002 and I worked on a new heel shape for a guitar design. It was very rounded and was on the PL models that I was making for Pat Lachman, very cool guitar I might add. There are a few with rounded heels around but very few, under 5. Pat has 4 of them.

Oh another Kelly you may look for is a export only japanese model that was just for overseas. It was neckthru, with dots, 2 hums and floyd, can't recall the name but it was dead on what you were talking about.

Man I have a PS6T Kelley which is pratically brand new, in Trans Red and it has better pickups in it than stock. It's yours for 250.00 plus shipping. IT includes a brand new hardshell case, and they are over 100.00 last time I looked.

I wish they would make all their neck-thru's scalloped like this... of all my Jacksons, this has the most comfortable "thumb room"...

Newc, the only neck through Kelly import was the Kelly Pro. The standard Kelly was a bolt on. No neck through Kelly Pro was ever made with dot inlay. You're likely confusing it for the Rhoads, which the Standard did have dot inlay. The Kelly Pro had the Schaller JT-590 and sharks.
