Re: Mike Shannon Back at Jackson Custom Shop 100%

And while Shannon is indeed a master luthier (who is not even a guitarist himself, ala Leo Fender) there are a great many of his kind in the custom shop that have been there for a long time. Many were concerned when Shannon first left but the production remained consistent throughout his departure. No one has even mentioned Pat and Juan and the other top dogs.

Re: Mike Shannon Back at Jackson Custom Shop 100%

I have a number of custom shop guitars ranging from 84, 86, 89, 95, 96 and 01, and the quality on them are consistently better and better.

The JCF'01 may have had custom specs, but it was limited production series guitar, and obviously did not receive "the treatment" as a custom order, unfortunately. Saying the custom shop had issues with one-offs because of the JCF'01 is kinda unfair.

Actually while I don't like speaking negative about the C.S the quality has suffered over the last few years drastically. I can tell you in many cases your better of buying a select because the quality is more consistent. I do know they are working hard to correct that. This was seen as a major issue in JCF01 and to the flip the bullseyes came out flawless .. More attention to detail had been paid. so hopefully Mike is an additional spark to resurrect what we have come to know of Jackson

I'm sure there was concern when Pat, Juan and Mike left. It's a good thing to see Mike back.

Yes, Mike is a very good friend of mine and he called me about work and how it was going. I thought you guys would like to know about some of the good things Fender & Jackson are doing

Cheers

Oh yea just to throw something in there for Kevin
My 2000 Robbin Crosby V is a cool guitar but
I have seen strange things done to here when they made her like not painting any shielding paint in the pickup routes and no shielding in the control route I thought maybe it had EMGs but I could not find any place for the battery no clip nothing

The vol pot is right on the wood it was routed out around the area of the pot also all the soldier joints looked like original the pot was dated 1998 which it could happen a 98 pot on a 2000 guitar

the guitar is great but just not built like my 1988 TMNT soloist and my 1991 Custom Kelly

Re: Mike Shannon Back at Jackson Custom Shop 100%

I've gotta agree with Xeno and Joe. I've bought several new USA guitars over the past few years - USA Selects, limited editions, and true customs - and have yet to experience a quality problem. And I can't recall too many other members who have had issues, either.

From what I hear, there were definitely quality issues with the JCF`01s. And there are obviously hard feelings about the downfall of the series, in general. But I can't help wondering if the flaws on JCF`01 and the hard feelings aren't leading to some unfair assumptions about a trend of declining quality. I don't mean that as a slam at all, just asking you to be open minded about it. There are justifiable gripes about JCF`01 and there will always be the odd screw-up, but from my own personal experience and what I see from many other JCF members posting their axes here, I just don't see a "trend" happening.

Usually they're nothing that serious.. the only serious one I can remember is the dude with the Floyd misaligned, other than that I'd say the consistency seems to be pretty great.

I never saw anything but consistently high quality out of the custom shop. My Mystic 24 fret Rhoads with Cobra inlays is killer!!!

I had the chance to meet Mike Shannon at the 2003 NAMM show. I had him autograph a tremolo cover plate for a Jackson for me. Also got Tim Wilson's autograph on it the day before
I gave both of them one of my calendars and they loved it Hopefully they'll be hanging them up in the custom shop
Its great to see Mike Shannon back in the custom shop with Tim Wilson. I hope I get to go back there again next year.

Hoss, not that he's like, busy and stuff, but can you coax Mike to post here, maybe once a week, give us some insight and stuff? Kevin E still does, would be sahweet to have the master involved directly with comments and explanations.
