Re: Thoughts on discontinued SlatQH

Well, you're just playing Jacksons. Ever play a Yamaha Floyd? How about a Ibanez (non-edge) Floyd? Pieces of junk. Floyd Rose has gotten a lot of bad rap, due to crappy junk made in places like Korea and Singapore. I will admit that copies have come far in recent years, but that is mainly due to the patents running out on the bridge. Add that to the fact that most people don't know how to setup and maintain the bridge, and they get a very poor reputation.

Maybe these guitars need Metal Studs or something to look more Metal.

Re: Thoughts on discontinued SlatQH

I own six USA Jacksons, one SL-1, two SL-2H's, one SLATQ90, one SLS, and a custom shop 24-fret SLATQH I bought from GMW.

Although it disappoints me that Jackson would discontinue the SLATQH, it just makes me that much more glad I got mine when I did. I love the Floyd's, but I also love my hardtail Jacksons. Let me tell ya, THEY ROCK!

I would have two guesses why they would not sell well as compared to the SL-1's and SL-2H's. One is the 22 frets vs 24 frets. And the other, which is what I feel the biggest reason is, is that you can hardly find the SLAT's anywhere except if you find them on the internet sites.

You can go into ANY Guitar Center, and find a Jackson SL-1 or SL-2H, but good luck finding a SLAT in stock. Fat chance. I still kind of feel ever since Fender became involved, and cut down on the dealers, you're just not going to see many Jacksons on the racks.

But having said that, Jackson/Fender introducing the SLS was a great idea. I bought a beautiful Blue SLS brand new and I just absolutely love this fine guitar. Sounds and plays incredible.

F#ck, I love ALL my Jacksons!!! They are my 'other' women.

As far as not seeing them in stores goes...

I have NEVER seen ANY USA Jackson in ANY stores in my area. I don't think Jackson actually wants to sell anything but import Dinky's, that's more or less the only things I ever see. Maybe I just live by the crappiest GC?

Nope I have never seen a USA in my part of the country-new or used. If stores don't stock them they will not sell-simple but true

The problem with stores stocking them is the idea that MSRP is "What God says you have to price it at. Period.", and have no concept of competing with online retailers.
My local shop wanted $700 for a DK2 HRF. I got mine from an online dealer for almost $400 less than that, yet Jackson's MSRP was $800 (IIRC), so they feel like they're cutting you a deal on a guitar by dropping the price $100 or even $50 off MSRP.
If Musician's Friend is getting $1900+ for a KE2, I'd like to know how they do it, and who the idiots are that are paying that much for them

I couldn't agree more....I always wondered who the heck buys those Jacksons on MF. Looks like not many people because their inventory looks stale.

Regarding how comfortable the sl2h's are againest the sl2ht's
this works either way , my first soloist was a string-thru-body sl2ht and I got very comfortable with this muting and all
and then I got a brand new sl2h and it took some getting use to, but now I am use to both so i'm not quiet sure its a feel kind of thing, and since most dont even use the floyds
i dont see the point buying one if it is not used u will just have the added hassle tuning your beasts lol...
Its sad to see the slatqh die , but i'm sure the sl2ht contributed to this , quilted finishes are very popular and I think the TSB quilt is the best i've ever seen , i'm
sure we will find out soon the main reason jackson decided to end this one , if u think the slatqh is not selling cause
of the the then why is the SLS still alive $400 more (non guilt) than the slatqh.

They're ALL crappy. A whole bunch of crappy ESP and Ibanez guitars, five import Jacksons and maybe one USA Jackson is all I ever see. Oh, not to mention your usual overstocking of Gibsons, Fenders, and Paul Reed Shit, three manufactures who lost touch with how to build the stuff that got them to where they are in the first place.

What should a SLATQH go for - they look nice, but the price I seen on the bay the other night seemed very steep gmw or not!

That would be cool if my GC carried ESP/LTD.

I'm at the office now, but I'll upload a few of it as soon as I can get the chance later. What I want to do is get some fresh photos taken of the six together. That would be cool.

That's a little odd, and a bummer I might add, that most of the GC's that you guys live near don't carry any USA Jacksons. Most all of the SoCal GC's I live near each have one or two at the least. I'd guess now it's because of the Jackson Custom Shop being in the SoCal area.

I'm bummed to see the SLATs go, but I understand why since they did not appear to be selling.
I thought they were excellent guitars for the money, compared to Les Pauls and PRS.
But even though I hate Floyds, I have to admit that the SLAT would have fared better with a trem on it.

Although, if the SLAT had a short scale instead, I would have kept the two I had.

Couple of thoughts--

1. Jackson should embrace its long-established identity, not try to compete with the "old fart guitars." From a marketing perspective, that's about as credible as Gibson's attempts to make shred guitars back in the '80s. To me, the SLATQH fell into that same category, regardless of how good it was. It's not 1994 anymore--pointy guitars don't have the stigma they did during the grunge era, even if they aren't the 'hot item', either. Jackson should be Jackson.

2. I've never seen more than two USA Jacksons at any GC outside of Southern California, and I only visited GCs in that area back when I lived there in '90-91, which was still during the latter part the 'pointy era'. FMIC seems to be doing a good job of getting Jacksons into GC--the three GCs in my area all have as many, and often more, Jacksons as they do competing Ibanezes or Schecters, but they are almost all imports. And frankly, GC has also greatly cut back on the number of Japanese Ibanezes, as well. The one nearest my house had exactly ONE new Japanese Ibanez for sale last time I was there--an RG1570, which is the lowest end Japanese model.
