I play a King V live and love it.

Now if it was a Double Rhoads like Big Red that might be overkill for me, but the normal King V is already downsized.

Actually I always was disappointed when going into a guitar shop and seeing all those guitars in reality... they were all so small! Especially Les Pauls just looked like toys compared to what I expected them to look like.

At 180cm (just under 5´11") a soloist is perfect for me, Rhoads, Kellies and Dinkys feel a bit small. King and Gibson Vs and explorers are fine as well, though.

got to love being 5 ft 11. not too tall, not too short. id rather be 6 ft but oh well. dang i thought Dave was shorter than that. he doesnt look 6 ft 1. i saw him on the drew carry show and he looked pretty short. course when he plays he always kind of leans over and slouches. know what i mean? Im with whoever said les pauls are smaller in person. they always look huge on tv or movies. unless they are on zakk wylde. in person they are pretty small. but hefty little suckers though. BC Richs always seem too big for me. maybe its their headstock because it is pretty huge and im used to the jackson pointy. and their necks seem longer. must have something to do with the scale of them. I love rhoads guitars. matter of fact, if i had the extra money id get a black ghost flames RR1T. they are so metal looking. I cant wait to get my KV2.

You don't look to small for a Soloist... Check out the guitarist form Nightwish... he's tiny and his ESP looks ok on him. Or for that matter, Randy Rhoads was not a big guy and all his V's looked good...

i used to play kellys(and i like them too) but the neckheavyness(on the NT models at least, boltons are ok...) bored me
since i got my rhoads´ i´m feelin perfect on stage [img]/images/graemlins/band.gif[/img]
havin a lot of fun with posin [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]
cause the rhoads is the ultimate posing-guitar too (if it has the upper wing strat jackplate) [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
e.g. she rests perfect on your leg while you swing her around and do the machine gun... [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/notworthy.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]

I might sound whiney, but to me appearance doesn't really matter. A guitar has to feel, and SOUND good! I don't care about stage presence that much.

I like the RR1, but if you want 24 frets, I'd try to find a King V to try on for size. Vs are cool in that they are able to look classic yet radical at the same time.

The Warrior is cool too, and offers the advantage of comfortable playing while sitting (though that doesn't seem to be one of your criteria, since you're looking for a stage guitar), but I'd get a Dean Razorback or Dime-o-Flame ML over a Warrior.

Rhandy looked pretty small compared to his les paul. that guitar looks pretty big on him. also the white rhoads looked oversized compared to him. but he was like super short and overall a man of small stature. hard to believe all that heart, soul, and talent was in a short dude like that. how tall is kirk hammett? he never looked goofey with any of his ESPs or the rhoads or les paul. i saw them in concert a ways back and he didnt look like a very big dude either. I dont thing a KV should look big on most people. it just doesnt seem like a big guitar. it seems more of a medium sized or less guitar.

jackson16: Yeah, Dave is one inch shorter than James Hetfield. Just look at old Metallica pics, they stood sholder to sholder, with Lars waaaay down there. Both of them plant their legs apart and hunch over their mics, which makes them look shorter.

Rune: Dude, that is one sweet looking tobacco sunburst! I really wish Kahlers were still readily available on new guitars. I love the bridges, but I miss out on getting flametops. Good luck in your hunt, and remember that you can always walk into a store with a strap and just try a bunch of stuff on. If you can't find a King V, grab a Gibson or Epi, they're not really that much bigger. Imagine a RR with a long bottom horn. For me, they are just very uncomfortable.

Dave always seems to look like he got punched in the gut when he plays. maybe it gives him a better attack on solos or something. I think Kirk is a small fellow and he doesnt look goofey with guitars. well compared to the guitar. cant say much for some of the stuff he wears and the painted nails and the used car salesman slicked back hair. I guess when your rich and wrote some great metal songs pre '91 you can do and wear what you want. My KV3 wasnt big at all. i know it was bolt on so there might be a little extra thickness aroudn the neckjoint area on the KV2. but body wise i thought it was pretty small. not like tiny but not as big as i thought they were. what I like about rhoads guitars and Vs is your so close to the pickups and strings and neck. make any sense? like strat shaped guitars you have that horn seperating you. its all right there. id have to show ya maybe. les pauls are the same way. there is a good chunk of wood between you and the pickups ad everything.

I've got a Rhoads bolt-on, so I know all about how they sit differently and direct access to the upper frets. Ever since I picked it up a month and a half ago, I've been playing the hell out of it. I didn't think anything would ever make me put down my Soloist for more than a day, but I finally understand the V vibe now--the thing certainly has a feel all it's own.

thanks for comment on my axe, but the stage lights are playing tricks on you...the finish is the (now discontinued) raspberry burst and being a 2004 it has the OFR..if you check out my homepage you'll see a better pic of it there [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
I wish it was as easy as you say, but I'm in Norway and where I live there are hardly any music stores at all, let alone any one that carries anything other than epiphones, ibanez, strat copies and the odd bc rich import model...
