Actually for warranty service the store that sold it is responsible for handling the details (i.e. filling out the warranty/repair info, getting a Return Authorization #, then shipping the guitar to and from Jackson), and if they bought it from another store, they didn't want that responsibility (or "hassle" as they would see it).
If that MGR was not an authorized Jackson dealer, then I think the store has to pay for shipping both ways. To avoid that, they deface the guitar.
Yet again, since they did not originally purchase the guitars from the manufacturers, they have no record of its handling (i.e. Guitar Denter, etc) and did not want to have to deal with people running damaged goods through their service center or on their warranty claim contracts (in the event each store had a limit on how many could be submitted in a given time - you send 5 in for repairs that came from another store + 5 that came from your store and you've got a 10 piece limit, what happens when another one from your store's original stock has to go in?)

Still, it's a sh1tty thing to do, rather than just say "we bought that from another store's stock, so we can't honor the warranty claim".
That may, however, be illegal in some states.

That makes more sense than the silly stories I keep hearing. It's still idiotic but I understand it.

Most people who have a guitar with problems will have the work done locally.

In a case where it was some structural defect, THEN I'd contact a competent luthier who was a dealer, not the
factory or a used dealer with no dealership.

And yeah, I'm really happy with the guitar. I'd love to get a custom chlorine and gold (or Boca) Sl1 or 2 at some point in the future when I have $ again. Plays like a dream, sounds great too. Doesn't hurt that it looks nice too.

Very cool, understated Soloist. Cool CSI post, too. I liked the pics interspersed with the text. Now I want an SL2 in Yellow/Gold Pearl.

I used to have one just like that. No inlays, serial sort of ground down, a poor attempt anyway. Bought it on eBay for $500 and traded it to GC for $800+ and they sold it for $1200 if memory serves me correctly.

Nobody could ever figure out what and why on the USED stamp, but I've owned one. Let me see if I can dig up any pics...

Welcome to the board bro! And yes, a helluva 1st post!

Hey Ron, C.S.I. JCF even... :P

Pat

[EDIT] Sorry, no pics of the back with the USED stamp, it did have a white sticker on it tho.

The low E I kept from the original set because I've never seen a low E that thick as an electric guitar string, I
even used the guitar as a "bass" once with that string on
a track with octave divider it was so thick.

While that was pretty rare when you bought it, it is nothing now. The downtuning craze has prompted all sorts of new gauge sets, all with unwoud G strings. Check out these gauge sets from Everly:

12-16-22-38-48-60

That's a helluva first post..it should count as 10!! I too had a "Used" stampon the back of the headstock, serial # on a white sticker, and blank neckplate on a Jackson AT2T I bought off the bay a couple yrs back. I can't remember if it was from MGR or another vendor. I traded it for some gear at GC a yr or so ago.

Good detective work on the serial #!

Actually, to clarify the "used" mark is more of an engraving in the wood, than a stamp. I don't know if it was placed by Jackson or someone else. Anyway, when I sanded the sticky finish off the neck to tung oil it, I spent a little extra time to sand off the damn stamp cos it bugged me so much! Later, after I realized I couldn't get used to the wraparound bridge/tailpiece, I traded it.

Hello all again.

Yeah, it's a strange mystery. I'll probably never know what the true origin of the guitar is other than the fact that it's a USA Jackson. I haven't taken off the trussrod cover or anything yet though so anything could happen.

The pictures of the other red one look EXACTLY like my guitar too, wow.

GodOfRhythm said in an email to me that these guitars were a limited edition of 250 (of each color or of the
entire production run I'd like to know).

And, if anyone has broadband and a lot of patience you can hear the guitar on this fusion track I did
with a bassist and drummer, I played guitar and keys:

http://pod.ath.cx/asb-etacariii.mp3
Guitar is SL2 into a Mesa Studio preamp with a Lexicon vortex for a little delay in the first part then goes to
a pretty much raw tone.

That's what I picked up here, Crash. It would probably be more like around 300.
