  • Can anyone help me identify this?

    Hey all,

Sorry I don't have a picture posted. But my buddy, who owns a music store here in town, just showed me a very cool old Jackson that I can't seem to identify.

It is a strat shape, with a Floyd. Black hardware. A single EMG pickup. The fingerboard is Maple (well worn, I might add) with dot inlays. Skunk stripe down the back IIRC. Headstock is a Strat shape. The finish is a snakeskin-not a painted on snakeskin, but real snakeskin, that is covered in a pretty thick clearcoat. The headstock matches the body with the real snakeskin, covered in clear. The headstock has a Jackson logo, but it doesn't say Made In USA anywhere on it. It is a 4 bolt neck with a plain black neck plate-no identifying marks at all.

And I might add, this is probably one of the heaviest guitars I've ever held.

Can anyone help me identify this? Could it be an early 80's Jackson? Didn't all the logos say "Made in USA" on them?

Thanks in advance for any help,
I can be emailed at [email protected]

Just delete the GO AWAY in the email address.

I think the questions should be. Just how many Single hum Jackson Strats were made with real snake skin? ALA Warren Demartini. And could it be one of his? But without a seriel number its hard to id with out pulling the neck off at least and checking the numbers there.

Could have been done by the same shop that did that red skull Strat.

Re: Can anyone help me identify this?

Well, I'm going to pull the neck-anything I should be looking for?

I thought all the old Stratheads had the Charvel Logo, not the Jackson. Can someone shed light on this?

My buddy says he'll sell it to me for $450 w/ case-should I just take it, and take my chances?

And I thought Warren played Charvel Logo'd guitars, not Jackson?

What is the Red Skull Jackson, some forgery out there? (asking out of ignorance, I really don't know)

Thanks for the help so far,

          Greg

Re: Can anyone help me identify this?

First off.. Warren played a PERFORMANCE snakeskin (Custom guitars, Hollywood CA)

2nd, YES, Jackson made strat heads, not just Charvels.

Third, Buy the damn guitar already before I do!
A S-Head for $450? Even if it is NOT a real Jackson it is still cool...
If you pass, please email me, I'll take it!

I'll post pics here after I pull the neck and you guys let me know what you think.

                  Thanks,

                      Hey Kickaxe-

Warren's original snakeskins were Charvels, I believe made in 85 and 86. They were real snakeskin stretched over the body. He didn't start playing Performance until late in the 80's and those snakeskins were graphics painted on the bodies.

                      Thought I'd pass that along.

                      John

P.S. - I'm curious to see what this snakeskin is like for $450!

xeno - As soon as I receive it, I'm all over it. I have sent a couple of e-mails to the seller regarding whether he received payment yet. I haven't heard anything from him. I'm getting nervous and actually a little angry... He wouldn't wanna see me when I'm mad...

Curious, was the back of the body black (Snakeskin only wrapped around the front and sides) and a charvel chainsaw case with differen't colors for the letters ?

No Matt, the entire body was wrapped in snakeskin. I'm picking it up in about 4 hours, and I'm posting pics right away.

Why do you ask? Clue me in.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but this is all real snakeskin.
