Re: I\'m about to order a custom shop and.......

I think a 3 piece would be fine in terms of stability, but I want to avoid it if possible, hence the graphite rods hidden in the truss rod cavity.

I'm put off a 3 piece neck because one of the Spitz guitars that Rob Witte has has a 3 piece figured neck and it's really obviously a 3 piece. I want the back of the neck to look nice, and to me, that obvious ply affect spoils the appearence.

so im curious if the guitars with oiled necks come with graphite rods from the factory. For example, the SL2Ht chlorine special edition just put out with the oiled neck.

Would there be grqaphite in those?

I know my wolfgang had it, and that neck was a rock

I don't think so, they're quartersewn rather than figured maple so they should be strong enough.

FYI - The upcharge for graphite rods installed in the neck, next to the truss rod is $240.00 list price. $60.00 must be an old price??

Well graphite rods are in the plan now, so here's the final specs:

XTRR
Quilt top in trans 'black' with solid black sides and back
Mahogany wings (as small a control cavity as possible)
Oiled flame maple neck with hidden graphite rods
Ivroid bound Ebony board with reverse sharkfins
EMG 89(n) and 85(b) with 3 way toggle (push/pull on volume)
Gold hardware
Non recessed floyd
Quilt veneered colour-matched headstock (not reversed)
MoP logo (inc Custom Shop)

Now I start to wait.....

In regards to the graphite rods: I have them in my McNaught and that neck doesn't move a hair through all the New England seasons. There is quite a noticeable difference in stability. All my other guitars need seasonal adjustments.

sounds like a cool guitar. i'm not for trans black, myself, but i'm sure that it'll be a great addition to your already really cool stable!

Thanks guys - can't wait for this one, but I guess there's no other way.
Sully, it's not really trans black in the current Select series or even Marty Friedman way - To me it almost looks like a stain with a slight subtle tinge of another colour in it (maybe purple, or maybe I'm going mad!). Anyway, I'm waiting on the fax, but the final quote is supposed to reference the Spitz guitars so they should get it right!

Ok, so when I order my custom Soloist, it will be all mahogany including the neck and clearcoated natural mahogany. Should I just get the standard neck, or would it be safer to get the 3 peice neck for the mahogany neck? I don`t want 3 peices showing, I know they don`t on Hamers, will the 3 peices show on the Jackson? Jack.
