Introduction year of the Dinky Strat

A German guitar&bass magazine claims that the original San Dimas Charvel Strats since 1979 are 7/8 size. I don't believe this. Unfortunately, I don't own a real Dimas yet, but I own a 1991 Ontario replica of a San Dimas Charvel Strat. She is my main guitar, and her body is full size, 100% as big as my Fender Stratocaster. I never recognized that my friends San Dimas Charvel Strats are 7/8. I think, the author of that magazine is wrong. The same magazine also says that Godin builds necks for the Charvel/Jackson custom shop, claims oil finished USA Charvel necks are painted, and tell some other wrong information about C/J.

Anyway, which year was the introduction of the Dinky Strat?

According to Rob Witte's Jackson Museum, the first Dinky was made in 1980. It's important to keep in mind that not only is a Dinky body slightly smaller, but the radius of the body edges is less rounded than a "Strat." Look through the Gallery and you'll see it. That author sounds very confused.

Toby you are correct .. As a matter of fact the guitar you ordered should be strat shaped and not dinky .. that was the body of the original you had it made too ...

Kevin, for my order I explicitly declared full size Strat body. I was just wondering because of the magazine article. It was a test report of the 1991 Charvel Strat of which 75 trans red and 75 trans blue ones have been made to custom order of the German distributor. You know I own one of them. According to the test report, my Strat would be a Dinky Strat. In reality it's a full size Strat. I compared both my 1991 Charvel Strat and my Fender Stratocaster with the Strat style diagram in the 1987 Jackson catalog, and all are identical in size. The author of the magazine has been wrong.

Recently, I saw this diagram on ebay.

As far as I understand, Dinky and Dinky Strat is not the same. I have both Strat and Dinky, and they look very different. They are recognizable at first sight. As far as I understand, the Dinky Strat has the same roundings and proportions as the full size Strat, but the Dinky Strat is only 7/8 scale of a full size Strat. Am I right? In this case, it would be difficult to differ between full size and Dinky Strat at first sight.

The Dinky is the same style as the Soloist (except the original DK1 from 1996-1998) and has very different roundings.
