I don't know about the 22 fret era as I have only had 24 fret versions.
I love the necks on Dinkys! they are slim enough to rip on and meaty enough to grab ahold of.

I´d say exactly the same about the neck on my ´96 DK-1. Wide and flat, VEERY similar to the profile of my CS Strathead (which I´ve been told by a few more knowledgable people is "almost spot-on San Dimas")
The 24 frets and EMGs turn me off of the new ones, so I haven´t tried one yet for comparison, sorry. But I´ve also heard people say similar things about the profile of the new ones as they do about mine....
