how does the dk1 profile as it is now compare to when it was 22 frets?

I don't know about the 22 fret era as I have only had 24 fret versions.
I love the necks on Dinkys! they are slim enough to rip on and meaty enough to grab ahold of.
My Cherry Dinky is my favorite guitar bar none!

It has more of the "wide and flat" feel to it but still very nice.

Mine has rosewood and sharks.

One of the first jacksons I can remember seeing had a matching white headstock, killer axe [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]

I´d say exactly the same about the neck on my ´96 DK-1. Wide and flat, VEERY similar to the profile of my CS Strathead (which I´ve been told by a few more knowledgable people is "almost spot-on San Dimas")

The 24 frets and EMGs turn me off of the new ones, so I haven´t tried one yet for comparison, sorry. But I´ve also heard people say similar things about the profile of the new ones as they do about mine....
