• Would I be evil to put EMGs in my Shannon?

I just can't get into the stock Duncans. I know there are hot passive options (I have a Duncan Distortion in my strat) but I don't have anything with EMGs in it right now. I have an 81 ready to go, I just keep thinking SA/SA/81 would kick serious ass in this thing.

Does that (alone) make me a bad person?

I had an 81/SA/SA setup in my Fusion & highly recommend it! As a matter of fact I'd probably add a Strat Presence Control & Guitar Expander while I was at it ... come to think of it that's exactly what I did. For the bonus round you could drop an 89 with the push/pull coil tap pot in the bridge and have tonal variety from hell.

No. I have Two SD soloist from 85&86 with EMG's. One has 81/SA/SA the other 89/SA/SA I wouldn't go back to passive in either of them. Check out the EMG wed site for the tone mods.

you're a bad man, you're a very bad man, I am going to wish you into the corn field!

Actually, the EMGs should be great. They won't require any permanent modification to the guitar so go ahead, you can always return it to stock if you feel so inclined.

I second the expander-sa's are a little shy of metal guitar alone-sa's are strat tone and pretty clean-You might like a mini JB or the mini screamin deamon up front better-I would

          I have a fusion with 85 sa/sa- I like the 85's better in the bridge-darker pickup than the 81-

I'd put EMGs in it if it'll make you happy.

EMG....EMG...EMG...EMG!!!!!!!! I have EMGs in a bunch of guitars including an 81 LPC and an '89 KV. They scream, but that is me.

If you are worried about collectability, just save all of the original electronics so you can reinstall them if you ever want to sell the guitar.

That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? I'm going to play it, as best I can, and spend so much time playing it that I might eventually deserve it.

So I'm going to put the EMGs in. If I want to change them in three days or six months, then I'll do that. What, I'm going to save it for the next life? Nope.

I'm going to hold off on any boosters for the SAs. I kind of want my neck pup to sound more like the neck pup on a strat. For now, anyway.

So are you offering to put EMGs in my guitar? I accept!

                      Keith,

                      Try out the APC's....

And no, I don't think you'd be evil, just save all the original stuff, IMO

Yeah, what's up with that, anyway? Am I wrong, or do similar age and condition SL1's often sell for the same or more than Shannons?

Keith, the market is weird on older Soloist's and Shannon's in particular for some strange reason.

The Soloist has taken a major hit on the used market monetary wise in recent times and I haven't really been able to figure it out, especailly with say, the new price of a SL-1, SL-2H etc.

I think the Shannon model may pull a little more money due to the uniqueness of it and the fairly limited supply of them, but really not that much, at least now.

I say mod it to fit your needs and desires bro. It's YOUR guitar and only you can answer yourself what you are willing to do for mods or whatever to it to make it uniquely "yours".

I have a black Shannon that I am going to replace the original Pearly Gates to either a Duncan 59' or a Custom (haven't decided which yet though )).

I had a set of EMG's in my old BC Rich neckthrough ST-III and it sounded great through my then setup of Soldano SP-77 w/Warren mod and the Mesa Boogie 50/50. It was loud, punchy, articulate, and very sustainy
